The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking a Senior Japanese Localization Linguist to review and generate AI training content, evaluate AI responses, and provide expert written feedback. You will help test models for accuracy and bias while ensuring localized outputs are clear, accurate, consistent, and culturally appropriate.
This fully remote, hourly contractor role is open to candidates in Japan and pays $24-$31 per hour, with a listed rate of $28 per hour.

What You'll Do
You will apply professional localization and translation judgment to AI-generated and AI training content. Your evaluations should be supported by clear, consistent rationales that follow structured guidelines.
Generate and review Japanese AI training content
Evaluate AI responses for reasoning quality, problem-solving, and clarity
Assess accuracy, tone, register, inclusivity, terminology consistency, and cultural nuance
Test AI models for accuracy and bias
Fact-check localized content, including units, names, dates, and references
Apply MQM or LQA frameworks using severity, category, and root-cause analysis
Use CAT tools, translation memory, termbases, and quality assurance workflows
Write clear explanations and consistent rationales for quality decisions
Requirements
This is a senior-level language and localization role requiring strong Japanese proficiency, advanced English reading and writing ability, and substantial professional experience. Candidates should be comfortable making detailed quality judgments and explaining those decisions in writing.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Japanese Translation, Linguistics, Localization, Communications, or a related field
Native or near-native Japanese proficiency with strong command of Japanese locale conventions
Minimum C1 English proficiency in reading and writing
At least 5 years of professional localization or translation experience
Experience applying MQM or LQA frameworks
Proficiency with CAT tools, translation memory, termbases, and QA workflows
Strong fact-checking skills for localized content
Ability to follow structured guidelines and produce clear, consistent written rationales
Preferred Experience
Experience working with AI data training, annotation, or evaluation is preferred. Familiarity with these workflows can help you transition your localization expertise into model quality and response evaluation.
