About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Specialists prepare and review examples, evaluate technical outputs, and provide structured feedback so AI systems can become more accurate and useful. In this project, your mechanical CAD judgment will help shape training data for models that work with technical designs.
Contribute to cutting-edge AI development through expert review.
Use real-world professional knowledge rather than prior AI training experience.
Work remotely with flexible contractor scheduling, subject to the project’s 20+ hour weekly expectation.
The Role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Parametric Mechanical CAD Specialist to support mechanical CAD model review and AI training work. You will create structured training data, review technical outputs, and explain your judgments clearly in writing and verbally.
The listing identifies this opportunity as entry level for AI training, and prior AI training experience is not required. However, the role requires substantial hands-on parametric CAD expertise, practical GD&T knowledge, and strong manufacturing judgment.
Role type: Contractor and part time.
Work location: Worldwide and fully remote.
Expected availability: 20+ hours per week.
Language: Fluent English.
Pay range: $40-$100 per hour.
What You’ll Do
You will create and review parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies. Your work will require precise constraints, robust feature trees, clear documentation, and careful evaluation of whether designs satisfy technical and manufacturing requirements.
Create fully parametric 3D CAD models from written briefs.
Build robust feature trees and apply precise constraints.
Edit and update existing models to meet technical requirements.
Document model changes clearly.
Audit dimensional accuracy and tolerance application.
Review manufacturability for injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, and casting or forging.
Apply design-for-manufacturing principles.
Translate design intent into clear, structured CAD data.
Communicate technical judgments and project updates clearly in writing and verbally.
Requirements
You should have relevant professional or academic expertise in mechanical CAD modeling and assembly-level design. Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow detailed guidelines consistently are essential.
The required CAD experience may come from SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Fusion 360, Autodesk Inventor, or a comparable parametric CAD platform. You must also be able to apply GD&T in practice using ASME Y14.5 or an equivalent standard.
At least four years of hands-on parametric CAD experience.
Experience creating or reviewing mechanical parts and assemblies.
Practical GD&T application using ASME Y14.5 or an equivalent standard.
Strong dimensional review and manufacturability judgment.
Experience supporting at least two manufacturing methods.
Ability to build reusable feature trees and structured CAD data.
Strong written technical communication and fluent English.
Careful attention to detail and consistent guideline-following ability.
Preferred Experience
The following experience is an advantage but is not stated as a requirement. Transferable expertise from another parametric CAD platform may also be relevant where it supports the required modeling and review work.
FreeCAD familiarity.
Reverse engineering experience.
Scan-to-CAD or point-cloud conversion experience.
CAD workflow automation using Python, iLogic, or VBA.
