The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a CAD and Mechanical Design AI Training Expert for a project involving technical drawings, computational geometry, programmatic CAD, and Python. You will interpret dimensioned engineering schematics and reproduce them as accurate 3D solid models using Python and CAD tools.

What You'll Do
You will transform 2D engineering schematics into precise, verifiable 3D mechanical models. The work combines mechanical design interpretation, computational geometry, CAD automation, and model evaluation.
Interpret dimensions and geometric relationships from technical drawings.
Translate 2D schematics into accurate 3D mechanical models.
Model curved profiles, sweeps, lofts, fillets, chamfers, and Boolean operations.
Use Python to generate or automate CAD geometry.
Export valid, watertight solid models in formats such as STEP.
Validate dimensions, topology, volume, surface area, and inertia properties.
Troubleshoot and assess CAD models for geometric accuracy.
Required Skills
This role requires strong technical reasoning across Python, 3D CAD, and engineering drawing interpretation. Formal education is not required, but applicants should be able to demonstrate practical ability with precise mechanical geometry and CAD model validation.
Strong Python programming ability, particularly for CAD automation.
Hands-on experience with 3D CAD or computational geometry.
Ability to interpret dimensioned engineering drawings and schematics.
Strong 3D spatial reasoning and attention to geometric precision.
Experience validating or troubleshooting CAD models.
Helpful CAD Background
Familiarity with one or more of the following tools is helpful: build123d, CadQuery, FreeCAD, OpenCascade, Fusion 360, Onshape, SolidWorks, or trimesh. Mechanical designers, CAD specialists, engineers, researchers, makers, and independent technical experts are encouraged to apply.
