The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a CAD and Simulation Engineer for AI Training to support work involving aerospace, mechanical, and electrical engineering. You will create and review CAD models, simulation models, calculations, schematics, engineering problem statements, and related technical assets.
The role requires clear, reproducible engineering solutions and careful technical judgment. You will translate technical requirements into structured simulation workflows, evaluate results, and communicate assumptions and decisions clearly.
You will develop CAD models and perform simulation and analysis for aerospace, mechanical, and electrical components. You will define the technical structure needed to make engineering work reproducible and assess submissions for correctness and completeness.
The work includes collaboration with engineering teams, analytical validation, design optimization, and thorough documentation of methodologies, processes, outcomes, and engineering decisions.
Create and review CAD models for engineering components
Develop simulation models and workflows from technical requirements
Define inputs, assumptions, constraints, and operating conditions
Specify output metrics and acceptance criteria
Validate simulation results through analytical checks
Optimize designs using simulation findings
Review engineering submissions for technical correctness and completeness
Document methodologies, outcomes, processes, and engineering decisions
Perform design trade-off analysis and communicate assumptions clearly
Requirements
This assignment is intended for an experienced CAD engineering and simulation professional with strong aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering fundamentals. Practical experience with modeling, simulation, or design projects is required.
You should also bring professional proficiency with relevant engineering tools and the ability to apply sound analytical judgment when reviewing technical work.
At least 10 years of experience in CAD engineering and simulation-focused organizations
Ability to develop reproducible CAD models, simulation workflows, calculations, schematics, and technical problem statements
Strong fundamentals in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering
Practical expertise in at least one electrical specialization, such as circuit analysis, power systems, electrical machines, power electronics, control systems, protection, grounding, instrumentation, or electronics design
Professional proficiency with MATLAB, Python, KiCad, ANSYS, CATIA, SolidWorks, COMSOL, or comparable platforms
Ability to define assumptions and acceptance criteria and validate results analytically
Strong technical documentation, peer review, problem-solving, and communication skills

This is a remote contractor assignment lasting 8 weeks. The expected commitment is 20 to 40 hours per week, with at least 4 hours of overlap during Pacific Time.
