About AI training and localization work

AI training (data labeling/annotation) is the human side of building intelligent systems. For localization projects, experienced linguists review, correct, and evaluate model outputs so AI systems behave reliably in a target locale.

This role places you at the intersection of professional localization and cutting-edge AI: you’ll apply localization QA methods and terminology management to improve model outputs used across language tasks.

The role

We’re hiring a German–English localization and translation expert to review and improve AI-generated German content for the Germany locale. You will make defensible quality decisions using LQA/MQM typologies, style guides, and CAT/QA workflows, and produce corrected outputs and detailed explanations.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Time commitment: Less than 20 hours per week
  • Compensation: $35 USD per hour
  • Work location requirement: Must be currently based in Germany

What you’ll do

  • Evaluate AI-generated German outputs for accuracy, clarity, register, cultural nuance, and adherence to prompts and guidelines
  • Apply MQM/LQA error typologies to classify severity and root cause; make consistent, defensible quality decisions
  • Identify linguistic and methodological issues and propose corrective actions
  • Write high-quality corrected outputs, model answers, and clear explanations for ratings
  • Rate and rank multiple model responses using structured evaluation rubrics
  • Fact-check localized details (units, names, dates, references) using reliable sources
  • Use CAT tools, terminology databases, and QA checks to ensure consistency across texts

Requirements

  • Must be currently based in Germany
  • Native or near-native German proficiency with strong professional writing/editing skills for the Germany locale
  • English proficiency at C1+ (reading and writing) to interpret prompts, sources, and guidelines
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Translation, Linguistics, Localization, Communications, or related field
  • 5+ years professional localization/translation experience (multilingual localization preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience applying MQM/LQA frameworks and making severity/category decisions
  • Proficiency with CAT tools, translation memory/termbases, and structured QA workflows
  • Strong terminology management, copyediting ability, and sensitivity to tone/register/inclusivity
  • Ability to rigorously fact-check localized content using reliable sources

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior experience with AI data training, annotation, or evaluation projects
  • Experience producing evaluation rubrics, model answers, or detailed error analyses for ML teams

Compensation, schedule, and data

This is a contract, part-time role with flexible hours up to 20 hours per week. Pay is $35 USD per hour.

You’ll work primarily with text data and perform evaluation-rating, RLHF-style review, and translation/localization tasks according to structured guidelines.

  • Data type: Text
  • Label types: Evaluation rating, RLHF, Translation & localization

How to apply and next steps

Create or update your OpenTrain profile and apply to this project. Include examples of localization work, MQM/LQA experience, and a brief note confirming you are based in Germany.

Selected candidates will complete a brief qualification task to demonstrate MQM/LQA application, CAT-tool familiarity, and quality decision rationale.
