OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. We connect skilled contributors with meaningful QA and annotation work that directly shapes how AI systems behave.

About AI training and why it matters

AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human work that teaches models to understand language and produce reliable outputs. Contributors review model responses, rate quality, correct language, and help establish the standards models learn from.

This work is remote, flexible, and accessible—often suitable for part-time schedules—and places contributors at the cutting edge of how state-of-the-art AI is built.

The role

You will serve as the Portuguese Quality Assurance Lead overseeing quality and trainer performance across Portuguese-language AI training projects. Your primary responsibility is to evaluate AI-generated Portuguese content and trainer or QA submissions against project guidelines and rubrics, then provide clear, actionable written feedback.

You will also maintain documentation and style guides, support onboarding of contributors, spot recurring quality issues, coordinate workflow updates, and help improve QA processes for Portuguese-language work.

What you'll do day-to-day

Work with Portuguese outputs and trainer/QA submissions to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to project rubrics. Share examples and written feedback to help contributors improve and to keep project quality high.

  • Review Portuguese AI outputs and trainer/QA submissions for quality and consistency
  • Check accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, formatting, and meaning preservation
  • Identify mistranslation, unnatural phrasing, terminology inconsistency, and cultural issues
  • Provide clear written feedback and escalate recurring or critical quality problems
  • Support onboarding, documentation, FAQs, trackers, examples, and style guides
  • Coordinate updates with contributors and iterate on QA workflows for Portuguese work

Requirements

This role requires strong bilingual skills and proven experience delivering high-quality language work in Portuguese.

  • Native or near-native Portuguese writing and editing ability
  • Strong English communication for guideline-based feedback and coordination
  • Professional experience in Portuguese writing, editing, translation, localization, QA, or AI training workflows
  • Strong understanding of Portuguese grammar, register, regional usage, and Brazil-specific localization
  • Comfort using remote collaboration tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, dashboards, and project trackers
  • Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, or rubric-based QA is a strong plus

Helpful background and who should apply

Candidates with formal training or experience in translation, linguistics, communications, journalism, education, or quality assurance will be competitive. You should be comfortable giving constructive written feedback and working across time zones with distributed contributors.

This role is a great fit for editors, localization specialists, translators, QA leads, or experienced annotators who want to shape Portuguese-language AI behavior and mentor remote teams.

  • Degree in Portuguese, linguistics, translation, communications, journalism, English, education, or quality assurance is helpful
  • Experience supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, editors, or QAs is a plus
  • Familiarity distinguishing Brazilian Portuguese from European Portuguese and applying locale-specific guidance

Working details and how to apply

This is a part-time contract role: 20+ hours per week at $35 USD per hour. Work is remote and limited to contributors based in Brazil or Portugal. Employment type: contractor, part-time.

To apply, create or sign in to your OpenTrain account, complete your profile, and submit your application. If selected, you'll work using standard remote tools (Discord, Google Sheets/Docs, trackers) and follow project-specific rubrics and onboarding materials.

  • Pay: $35 USD per hour
  • Time: 20+ hours/week
  • Location: Remote — candidates must be based in Brazil (BR) or Portugal (PT)
  • Employment: Contractor, Part-time
  • Data type: Text; label types: Evaluation rating and RLHF
