About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Parametric CAD Model Review Engineer to support AI training through high-quality mechanical design work. You will create, modify, validate, and review detailed FreeCAD models, mechanical assemblies, technical drawings, and related engineering documentation. Your work will combine hands-on parametric CAD expertise with structured quality review, manufacturing judgment, and feedback that helps AI systems learn from accurate, real-world engineering work.

What you will do
Create, modify, and validate detailed parametric CAD models in FreeCAD against project requirements. Develop and optimize mechanical assemblies using sound assembly design and component integration practices. Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and Design for Manufacturing principles to support manufacturability and quality. Produce clear technical drawings and documentation for engineering review, manufacturing, and assembly. Conduct engineering quality reviews of CAD models and drawings, identify issues, communicate findings, and help resolve them. Provide feedback on model accuracy, design intent, and process improvements. Use Python scripting to automate repetitive or complex CAD modeling operations when useful.

Required skills
Advanced proficiency in FreeCAD or an equivalent parametric CAD platform is required. Candidates should have at least two years of experience in mechanical engineering, product design, industrial engineering, or a related field focused on parametric CAD modeling. Strong mechanical design fundamentals, GD&T, DFM, technical drawing, and manufacturing documentation skills are important. Experience verifying model integrity, specification compliance, and production readiness is required, along with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for remote project-based collaboration. No prior AI experience is required.

Schedule and location
This is a remote contractor opportunity requiring approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Helpful background
Experience using Python for CAD automation is helpful but not required. Candidates should be able to build robust, reusable parametric models and assess engineering work for accuracy, design intent, manufacturability, and compliance with specifications.
