About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. People with technical expertise create, review, and evaluate high-quality examples so AI systems can learn accurate processes, decisions, and outputs.

In this project, your mechanical engineering and parametric CAD expertise will help evaluate real-world design work. No prior AI experience is required.

  • Work remotely on cutting-edge AI training projects
  • Apply specialized engineering judgment to model and documentation review
  • Build experience in a fast-growing field at the intersection of engineering and AI

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Parametric CAD Model Review Engineer to create, modify, validate, and review detailed FreeCAD models, mechanical assemblies, technical drawings, and related engineering documentation.

This role combines hands-on parametric CAD modeling with structured quality assurance, manufacturing judgment, and feedback on model accuracy, design intent, and process improvements. The opportunity is remote and project-based, with contractor and part-time engagement.

  • Listed compensation: $40–$100 USD per hour
  • Remote contractor opportunity
  • Approximately 15–20 hours per week; the structured listing indicates 20+ hours per week
  • English-language work
  • Entry-level opportunity classification, with role requirements calling for at least two years of relevant experience

What You'll Do

You will work directly with parametric CAD models and engineering documentation, checking whether designs satisfy project requirements and are suitable for engineering review, manufacturing, and assembly.

You will also communicate findings, help resolve issues, and provide feedback that improves the accuracy, consistency, and usefulness of engineering work for AI training.

  • Create, modify, and validate detailed parametric CAD models in FreeCAD
  • Develop and optimize mechanical assemblies using sound assembly design and component integration practices
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and Design for Manufacturing principles
  • Produce clear technical drawings and manufacturing or assembly documentation
  • Review CAD models and drawings for engineering quality and identify issues
  • Assess model integrity, specification compliance, manufacturability, and production readiness
  • Communicate review findings and help resolve design or documentation issues
  • Provide feedback on model accuracy, design intent, and process improvements
  • Use Python scripting to automate repetitive or complex CAD operations when useful

Requirements and Helpful Experience

Advanced proficiency in FreeCAD or an equivalent parametric CAD platform is required. You should be able to build robust, reusable parametric mechanical models and assess engineering work for accuracy, design intent, manufacturability, and compliance with specifications.

The role requires at least two years of experience in mechanical engineering, product design, industrial engineering, or a related field focused on parametric CAD modeling. Python-based CAD automation experience is helpful but not required.

  • Advanced FreeCAD or equivalent parametric CAD proficiency
  • Experience building robust and reusable parametric mechanical models
  • Strong mechanical design fundamentals
  • Practical knowledge of GD&T and Design for Manufacturing principles
  • Ability to produce and review accurate manufacturing and assembly drawings
  • Engineering quality assurance judgment
  • Ability to verify model integrity, specification compliance, manufacturability, and production readiness
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for remote collaboration
  • Python experience for CAD automation is helpful but not required
  • No previous AI training experience is required
