About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting for a contractor who will create and validate parametric CAD data for AI model training. The work combines practical mechanical design with dataset generation, requiring accurate FreeCAD models, thoughtful engineering decisions, and consistent quality review. You will help produce reusable digital representations of mechanical parts, assemblies, and design features while maintaining documentation that supports reproducibility and transparency.

What you will do
Produce, edit, and validate precise parametric CAD models using FreeCAD.
Build a diverse library of mechanical parts, assemblies, and features for AI dataset creation.
Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles to reflect real-world mechanical design standards.
Review CAD data for geometric accuracy, identify discrepancies, and resolve quality issues.
Implement feedback and revisions as project requirements evolve.
Document modeling workflows and design decisions for technical traceability.
Use Python scripting where helpful to automate modeling tasks, improve parametrization, and enrich the resulting dataset.

Required skills
At least two years of experience in mechanical design, CAD modeling, manufacturing, or industrial engineering.
Strong experience with FreeCAD or equivalent parametric CAD software.
Demonstrated expertise in parametric modeling, mechanical design, and CAD validation.
Working knowledge of GD&T and common manufacturing processes.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision in technical deliverables.
Ability to prepare comprehensive engineering documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.

Helpful background
Experience using Python to automate CAD workflows or enhance model parametrization is useful for this role. Familiarity with production-ready design review criteria and the ability to assess whether models are robust, reusable, and suitable for real-world manufacturing will help you succeed.
