About AI training work
AI training (data labeling/annotation) is the human work behind modern machine learning: people create, review, and rate examples that teach models how to write, translate, and respond. The work is often remote, flexible, and accessible to contributors with language or domain expertise.
As a QA lead you’ll directly influence how Odia-language AI behaves by enforcing rubrics, improving guidelines, and mentoring contributors—work that has immediate impact on model quality.
The role
You will lead QA across Odia-language AI training projects. Your job is to evaluate AI-generated Odia content and trainer/QA submissions, give precise written feedback, maintain style guides and documentation, and support onboarding and alignment for remote contributors.
Position type: Part-time contractor (20+ hours/week)
Pay: Up to $30/hour (USD)
Work location: Remote; applicants from India, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Indonesia only
What you'll do
Day-to-day you’ll review submissions against project rubrics, write actionable feedback, and escalate recurring or critical issues. You’ll keep documentation current and help scale QA processes to maintain consistent quality across distributed teams.
Review Odia AI outputs and trainer/QA work for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, cultural appropriateness, meaning preservation, and formatting
Provide clear, constructive written feedback to contributors in English and Odia when appropriate
Maintain and update style guides, trackers, FAQs, onboarding docs, and examples
Support onboarding and training sessions for remote contributors and help align teams to rubrics
Identify recurring quality issues and recommend workflow or guideline improvements
Requirements
Candidates must meet the core skill and experience requirements below. We will rely on your Odia language expertise and your ability to translate that insight into practical feedback for remote teams.
Native or near-native Odia reading and writing ability
Strong English communication skills for guidelines and team feedback
3+ years experience in Odia writing, editing, translation, localization, content QA, AI training, education, annotation, or similar work
Deep understanding of Odia grammar, spelling, punctuation, tone, register, and cultural context
Ability to evaluate content against detailed rubrics and spot mistranslation, literal phrasing, unnatural tone, ambiguity, or inconsistent terminology
Comfort supporting remote teams and producing documentation
Helpful background
The following are not required but will help you succeed and move faster in the role.
Degree in Odia, Linguistics, Translation, Communications, Journalism, English, Education, Quality Assurance, or a related field
Experience with Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, or project management systems
Familiarity with AI training concepts, data annotation, large language models, rubric-based evaluation, or RLHF-style rating tasks
How it works & how to apply
This role is a contract position with flexible hours (20+ hours/week expected). You will be paid hourly up to the listed rate and will work remotely with distributed contributors.
When you apply, highlight your Odia language experience, examples of past QA or editorial work, and any experience supporting remote teams or maintaining style guides. OpenTrain will manage contracting and pay.
