The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Chinese Mandarin Audio Transcription Auditor to review speech recordings, prepared transcriptions, and word-level audio alignment data used in AI training. You will determine whether transcripts accurately capture spoken Mandarin, apply defined error codes, and provide clear pass or fail rationales in English.

This is remote freelance work with a default commitment of 10 hours per week. The rate is $21.50 per hour, and the role is classified as entry level.

What You'll Do

You will apply written standards consistently across repeated audits. Careful listening is essential, since the work involves distinguishing similar sounds, identifying genuine acoustic ambiguity, and separating clear transcription or segmentation errors.

• Listen to human or agent speech recordings and compare them with prepared transcriptions
• Apply all relevant transcription error codes
• Explain audit decisions and pass or fail outcomes in plain English
• Review automated word-level segmentation and verify that timestamps match the audio
• Correct inaccurate segments and adjust word boundaries
• Split or merge segments when needed
• Add missing spoken segments and remove segments with no spoken word
• Prioritize critical errors so the reason for a failed audit is clear
• Complete a calibration phase before production auditing

Required Qualifications

This role requires native or near-native Mandarin Chinese as spoken in mainland China, along with strong English reading and writing skills for understanding audit conventions, applying error codes, and writing detailed rationales.

Prior experience is valuable but not required in transcription, subtitling, localization, linguistic annotation, or quality assurance. Experience with AI data annotation, model evaluation, phonetics, linguistics, audio editing, or waveform tools can also help you succeed.
