The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Web Research Task Author to support AI training focused on web research and source verification. You will use public English-language web sources and exact quotations to create or review structured research tasks and help AI systems learn from reliable human expertise.

This is a remote contractor position with part-time scheduling. The project has a six-week snapshot, with approximately four hours allocated per completed task. Compensation is $30 per completed task through the OpenTrain project budget.

What You'll Do

You will develop careful, evidence-based research work and evaluate materials against detailed project standards. Your explanations should make judgments understandable and give useful direction for improving model behavior.

• Review project materials and apply project rubrics.
• Write clear feedback on research materials and model outputs.
• Review source materials and model responses against project guidelines.
• Use public English web sources and exact quotes to support research tasks.
• Explain judgments clearly so feedback can improve model behavior.
• Maintain consistency and quality across repeated review tasks.
• Design searchable clues that jointly identify a definitive answer.
• Identify logical chains, information leaks, and undefined terms in research tasks.

Requirements

The role is listed as entry level, and prior AI training experience is not required unless otherwise stated. However, the work requires substantial research capability and demonstrated expertise in web research and source verification.

• Master's degree or PhD in Library and Information Science, History, Journalism, Research, or a related discipline.
• Three or more years of relevant experience.
• Professional, academic, or language expertise in web research and source verification.
• A demonstrated background in sourced research, such as journalism, fact-checking, library or archival work, genealogy, due diligence, graduate-level primary-source research, or citation-heavy editing.
• Familiarity with archives and catalogues, including libraries, museums, legislative and court records, registers, specialized databases, the Wayback Machine, and preprint servers.
• Fluency in English.
• Strong written communication and careful attention to detail.
• Ability to follow detailed project instructions and apply rubrics consistently.
• Comfort working independently on remote contractor tasks.
