OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We hire and scale teams that teach AI by creating and curating high-quality training data. This role is contracted through OpenTrain AI and offers a chance to join a growing field that shapes how modern AI systems behave.
About AI Training Work
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building artificial intelligence: people create and verify examples AI models learn from. Contributors work remotely, often on flexible schedules, and directly influence model behavior.
This project focuses on programming data for language models: you will author and correct Ruby code that becomes part of training sets used to teach and evaluate AI coding assistants.
The Role
We are seeking experienced Ruby developers to write, debug, and refine Ruby code for an AI/LLM training project. This is a long-term contract (6+ months) with a flexible schedule of roughly 20–40 hours per week, paid at $7 USD per hour. Work is fully remote and you will set your own hours within the project’s needs.
Position type: Contractor, part-time
Duration: 6+ months (long-term project)
Time commitment: project operates 20–40 hrs/week; applicants should confirm ability to work 25–40 hrs/week
Pay: $7 USD per hour
What You'll Do
Your core work is producing high-quality programming examples and corrections in Ruby that teach and evaluate AI models. Tasks are concrete and repeatable but require careful attention to correctness and style.
Write Ruby code snippets and short programs from precise prompts
Debug and correct AI-generated Ruby code to meet defined standards
Create clear, consistent training data entries and metadata
Refine and optimize code for clarity, correctness, and edge cases
Follow annotation guidelines and quality checks provided by OpenTrain
Requirements
Candidates must meet the stated technical and availability requirements. We preserve all qualifications from the posting; please review carefully before applying.
Minimum 2 years professional software development experience with strong focus on Ruby
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
Proven ability to develop, troubleshoot, and optimize Ruby code
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Effective communication skills in English and ability to work on remote teams
Stable internet connection and reliable electricity for consistent remote work
Ability to commit 25–40 hours per week for a duration of 6 months
Prior experience in AI data labeling or training is preferred but not required
Who Should Apply
This project is a fit for Ruby developers who enjoy creating clear examples and fixing subtle bugs, and who want flexible, remote work that contributes directly to AI systems. Entry-level candidates are welcome per the posted experience level, provided they meet the minimum two-year Ruby experience requirement.
Developers who can balance speed with precision
People seeking part-time, long-term remote work with flexible hours
Those interested in contributing to the behavior and reliability of AI coding assistants
How It Works / How To Apply
Apply by submitting your proposal through OpenTrain. After you apply, you will receive a Ruby coding assessment to complete; passing that assessment is required to move forward. OpenTrain will provide annotation guidelines and examples once you are accepted.
Submit proposal explaining your Ruby experience and availability
Complete the Ruby coding assessment sent after application
If accepted, begin contractor onboarding and start contributing remotely
Review AI-generated Ruby and Rails code, write clear technical explanations, and create model solutions in a remote contract role paying $55/hr for 20+ hours/week. Ideal for experienced Ruby/Rails engineers with strong writing skills and familiarity with LLM outputs.
Join OpenTrain AI as a remote Java developer on a long-term (6+ month) contract creating and debugging Java code to build training datasets for large models. Flexible 20–40 hrs/week; $6.75/hr; candidates complete a short Java coding assessment after proposal.
Join OpenTrain AI as a remote Scala developer on a long-term (6+ month) AI/LLM training project, writing and debugging Scala code to create training datasets; flexible 20–40 hrs/week (preferred 25–40) at $9.28/hr. Apply with a proposal and complete a Scala coding assessment as the next step.
