About AI training and this role

AI training (data labeling and evaluation) is the human side of making AI reliable: people review model outputs, rate correctness, and produce high-quality example answers. This role places experienced Ruby engineers at the center of that process, evaluating generated code and explanations so models learn safe, idiomatic, maintainable practices.

The role

As a Ruby AI Code Review Engineer you will review AI-generated Ruby and Ruby on Rails code, compare alternative responses, and author high-quality explanations and model solutions demonstrating idiomatic Ruby. You'll evaluate correctness, architectural issues, and long-term maintainability so models learn to produce reliable code.

• Contract, part-time role (20+ hours/week).
• Pay: USD $55/hour.
• Work remotely; applicants must be able to communicate in English.

What you'll do

Your day-to-day work focuses on careful technical evaluation and clear written feedback. Tasks are centered on assessing generated code and producing example solutions that teach models the right patterns and explanations.

• Review and compare AI-generated Ruby and Rails solutions for correctness and reasoning quality.
• Identify issues in MVC structure, domain modeling, control flow, readability, and maintainability.
• Fact-check technical content and explain why a solution is strong or weak with concise, actionable feedback.
• Write idiomatic Ruby examples and high-quality model answers that show best practices.
• Evaluate responses for clarity, testability, and long-term code quality; rate answers per project guidelines.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the core technical and communication requirements below. All listed items come from the role description and are required for trustworthy evaluation of generated code.

• Professional Ruby programming experience in production environments.
• Strong understanding of Ruby on Rails, MVC architecture, and idiomatic Ruby patterns.
• Hands-on experience building or maintaining Ruby or Rails applications, including controllers, models, and service-layer design.
• Ability to judge readability, maintainability, and logical correctness in code.
• Excellent English writing skills for clear technical explanations and reviews.
• Familiarity with LLMs or AI coding assistants and common failure modes when they generate code.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field preferred.
• Prior AI data training, large-scale code review, or evaluation of AI-generated technical content strongly preferred.

Helpful background and nice-to-haves

These experiences strengthen an application but are not strictly required. They make it easier to produce high-quality model answers and nuanced reviews.

• Experience with Rails frameworks like Sinatra, test suites such as RSpec, or metaprogramming.
• History of merged pull requests in Ruby open-source projects.
• Comfort working in test-heavy systems or with competitive programming experience.

How contracting with OpenTrain works

OpenTrain handles hiring and contracting for this project. You will be engaged as a contractor and expected to follow project-specific guidelines for ratings, explanations, and model answers. Work is remote and scheduling is flexible within the 20+ hours/week expectation.
