About AI Training Work

AI training is the human work behind modern artificial intelligence. Contributors prepare and review examples such as transcriptions, translations, annotations, and model responses so AI systems can better understand real-world language and behavior.

This work is remote and often flexible, making it possible to contribute from anywhere while building experience in a growing technology industry. Your transcription accuracy will help create reliable training data from natural human conversations.

The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Peninsular Spanish Audio Transcriptionist to produce high-quality training data from real human conversations. You will turn spoken Spain Spanish into accurate, structured text while preserving natural speech details, including crosstalk, overlapping speakers, filled pauses, interruptions, background noise, and varying recording quality.

This is an entry-level, remote freelance contractor role completed independently and asynchronously. The expected time commitment is 20 or more hours per week, with hourly pay ranging from $10 to $35 USD.

  • Employment type: Contractor and part time
  • Location: Worldwide and fully remote
  • Language: Peninsular Spanish, including Castilian vocabulary and regional speech patterns
  • Data type: Audio transcription
  • Experience level: Entry level
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Pay: $10-$35 USD per hour

What You’ll Do

You will create precise, verbatim transcripts of spoken Peninsular Spanish audio and apply consistent conventions across assignments. The work requires careful listening and sound judgment when recordings are fast, noisy, interrupted, or difficult to understand.

  • Transcribe spoken Peninsular Spanish accurately and verbatim.
  • Distinguish and label multiple speakers within individual recordings.
  • Apply conventions for timestamps, speaker labels, non-verbal sounds, and filled pauses.
  • Mark unclear, unintelligible, or ambiguous passages according to established protocols.
  • Handle crosstalk, overlapping dialogue, interruptions, background noise, and varying audio quality.
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency across repetitive, quality-focused assignments.

Requirements

You should have native or near-native fluency in Spain Spanish, strong written Spanish, and exceptional listening skills. Success in this role depends on accurately understanding fast speech, regional accents, overlapping dialogue, and imperfect recordings while following detailed formatting rules.

  • Native or near-native command of Peninsular Spanish, including Castilian vocabulary and regional speech patterns.
  • Strong written Spanish and exceptional listening ability.
  • Ability to transcribe fast speech, crosstalk, overlapping speakers, and filled pauses accurately.
  • Ability to distinguish speakers and identify unintelligible or ambiguous audio.
  • Precision when applying timestamps, speaker labels, non-verbal sound notation, and formatting conventions.
  • A careful, methodical approach to repetitive work and quality standards.
  • Self-motivation and reliability when working independently.

Helpful Background

Experience in professional transcription, court reporting, stenography, subtitle creation, closed-caption editing, media post-production, linguistics, phonetics, or language documentation is helpful but not required. Familiarity with regional Spanish accents, technical audio content, annotation platforms, data-labeling tools, or AI training workflows can also be useful.

Prior AI or technology experience is not required. This opportunity may suit contributors who bring strong language skills, focused listening, and consistent attention to detail.
