The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Spanish (Spain) Audio Transcriptionist to create verbatim transcriptions of Peninsular Spanish audio recordings for AI training datasets. You will work with real-world recordings that may include crosstalk, overlapping speakers, filled pauses, background noise, and varying audio quality.

The role is fully remote and asynchronous. You must be based in New York. The project description specifies 10 to 40 hours per week, while the structured requirement indicates 20 or more hours per week, so plan to commit at least 20 hours within that range.

What You'll Do

  • Listen to Peninsular Spanish recordings and produce accurate, verbatim transcriptions
  • Follow detailed transcription style and formatting guidelines
  • Handle crosstalk, overlapping speakers, filled pauses, background noise, and imperfect audio
  • Identify and differentiate multiple speakers in a single recording
  • Apply consistent timestamps, speaker labels, non-verbal sound notation, and unclear-segment formatting
  • Flag unintelligible or ambiguous audio segments according to established protocols
  • Work independently and asynchronously on your own schedule

Required Skills

This role requires strong Spanish listening and writing ability, careful attention to detail, and the discipline to produce consistent work while following precise guidelines.

  • Native or near-native fluency in Spain Spanish, also called Peninsular Spanish
  • Exceptional listening skills and an ear for subtle differences
  • Comfort working with crosstalk, background noise, and challenging audio
  • Accuracy and consistency in verbatim transcription
  • Ability to differentiate multiple speakers
  • Strong written Spanish skills
  • Ability to follow detailed style guides and formatting rules
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and comfortable working independently

Helpful Background
