About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect experienced contributors with projects that teach AI systems how to perform real-world tasks—everything from annotation and transcription to prompt design and RLHF.

  • Work remotely on flexible, project-based engagements across the AI-training ecosystem.
  • Build practical experience shaping how state-of-the-art AI models behave.

Why AI‑training work matters

AI training (data labeling and human feedback) is the human layer that makes modern AI useful and safe. Contributors create and evaluate examples—writing prompts, grading outputs, and improving system reliability—so models can learn to build and operate complex automation workflows.

  • Flexible hours and remote work—fit assignments around your schedule.
  • Entry to intermediate roles through to specialist work that pays for domain expertise.

The role

We are hiring a contract n8n Workflow Developer to help train and evaluate AI systems on building complex automation pipelines and integrations. You will author and review prompt+response examples, design evaluation rubrics for multi-step workflows, and improve AI-generated workflow designs for reliability, scalability, and performance.

  • Employment type: Contractor, part-time.
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours/week.
  • Payment: Pay per hour (USD). Typical posted rate up to $45/hr; range $15–$45/hr.

What you’ll do

Your day-to-day will mix hands-on n8n expertise with AI training tasks: creating prompts that require robust workflow design, evaluating and rating model outputs, and correcting or optimizing generated workflows so they perform reliably in production-like environments.

  • Write prompt+response examples (SFT) and structured evaluations (RLHF-style rating tasks).
  • Design evaluation criteria for multi-step automation: correctness, idempotency, error handling, retries, sequencing.
  • Review AI-generated n8n workflows and propose fixes: node selection, data parsing, execution modes, and logging.
  • Document resilient patterns for rate limits, batching, timeouts, and API constraints.
  • Create examples and tests for web scraping and data-extraction reliability (Apify or similar).

Required qualifications

To qualify, you must have demonstrable hands-on experience with self-hosted n8n automation and strong English communication (B2+). You should be able to explain past automation projects in text and evaluate AI outputs against detailed rubrics.

  • Proven hands-on experience with n8n, including self-hosted setup and maintenance (Docker, env vars, credentials).
  • Experience building complex multi-app automation pipelines using APIs, webhooks, OAuth/API keys, and data mapping.
  • Deep understanding of n8n workflow logic, nodes, execution modes, and troubleshooting failed runs.
  • Ability to design resilient workflows: retries, deduping/idempotency, error branches, logging/alerting.
  • Knowledge of rate limits, batching, and workflow optimization to avoid timeouts and failures.
  • Web scraping experience with extraction reliability and structured/unstructured data parsing.
  • Experience evaluating LLM outputs, rubric-based QA, or text annotation for model feedback.

Preferred skills & portfolio

Preferred candidates will have a portfolio or text descriptions of scalable automations and end-to-end workflows, plus familiarity integrating LLMs into automation pipelines (calls, enrichment, content workflows).

  • Examples or descriptions of n8n workflows you built (architecture, key nodes, failure handling).
  • Familiarity with Docker-based deployments and basic ops for self-hosted systems.
  • Experience architecting content/workflow use cases like lead generation, content pipelines, or scraping.

How to apply & additional details

CV should be in English and indicate your English proficiency level, email address, and phone number. Applications should include written descriptions of past n8n projects (links or text). This project uses 'Other' labeling software (custom platform).

  • Required English level: B2 or higher (conversational written and verbal).
  • Work is remote and globally open except for restricted locations listed below.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working independently on flexible, project-based engagements.
