OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors discover projects, track work, and grow a durable freelance portfolio in the fast-growing field of AI training.
OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. We offer flexible, remote opportunities that let contributors directly influence how state-of-the-art language models behave.
Why AI training work matters
AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people prepare, review, and correct examples that models learn from. Contributors work on tasks like rating responses, writing model revisions, and checking accuracy—work that shapes real products and research.
This work is often 100% remote, flexible, and accessible: many projects need language skill and attention to detail rather than prior AI experience, and contributor feedback directly improves model quality.
The role — what you'll do
As a French Language Expert you will review AI-generated French responses, create expert language content when needed, and evaluate reasoning, clarity, and adherence to instructions. You will identify logical and linguistic errors, fact-check when necessary, and write clear revisions that demonstrate the correct method.
This is hourly contractor work for contributors based in France, with a regular commitment of 20+ hours per week. Tasks focus on model evaluation and improvement for French-language text.
Review AI-generated French-language responses for accuracy, clarity, and prompt adherence
Generate expert French content to support model learning and propose corrected outputs
Identify reasoning errors, meaning drift, locale inconsistencies, and subtle language issues
Write clear explanations and model revisions that demonstrate correct methods
Rate and compare multiple AI responses for correctness, fluency, naturalness, and contextual relevance
Apply French grammar, semantics, pragmatics, register, style, and punctuation standards
Required qualifications
You must be native or near-native in French and able to explain corrections clearly in written English. This role expects a high command of French grammar, agreement, tense and mood, punctuation, semantics, pragmatics, and discourse-level editing.
OpenTrain values direct experience with language QA or AI training, but entry-level candidates with the right background and clear written skills may qualify.
Native or near-native French proficiency and strong written English
Bachelor's degree or higher in Linguistics, French, Translation/Localization, Communications, or a related field
Strong command of French grammar, agreement, tense and mood, semantics, pragmatics, and discourse editing
High attention to detail for terminology, formality, and locale consistency
Comfort working as an hourly remote contractor across time zones
Experience in AI data training, annotation, editorial QA, or translation/localization QA is strongly preferred
Who should apply
This role is a great fit for translators, editors, localization specialists, linguists, or language teachers with strong French writing skills who want to move into AI model evaluation work.
