The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a French Audio Recording and Transcription Expert to create high-quality Canadian French and English audio data for AI training. You will combine audio capture, accurate transcription, linguistic annotation, metadata work, and quality review to produce reliable assets that help models learn from real-world language.

This is a remote contractor and part-time opportunity for contributors located in Canada. The expected time commitment is 20 or more hours per week. Compensation is structured per task, with an effective hourly equivalent typically ranging from $15 to $25 USD.

What You'll Do

You will create and evaluate audio and transcription assets while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and clear documentation throughout the engagement. The work requires careful execution across recording, transcription, annotation, metadata, and quality assurance tasks.

• Produce and deliver clear audio recordings in Canadian French and English.
• Transcribe recorded audio samples accurately while following linguistic best practices.
• Annotate audio files and transcripts with detailed metadata tags that improve data usability.
• Review audio content, transcripts, and metadata for consistency, clarity, and quality.
• Communicate findings, challenges, and insights related to audio assets and annotation work.
• Manage multiple deliverables and meet project requirements with minimal oversight.

Requirements

This is an entry-level opportunity, but successful contributors must bring strong language, transcription, and quality-focused skills. Canadian French proficiency and awareness of Canadian French dialects are central to the work.

• Native or near-native proficiency in Canadian French, including awareness of Canadian French dialects.
• Fluent English communication and the ability to work across both languages.
• Strong audio transcription and linguistic analysis skills.
• Careful, error-conscious work across recording, transcription, annotation, and quality assurance.
• Experience applying metadata tags or annotating linguistic datasets.
• Ability to review audio, transcripts, and metadata for consistency and quality.
• Ability to maintain consistency and document observations throughout an engagement.

Helpful Background

Professional experience in audio engineering, sound recording, or a related audio production field can support effective contribution to the project. Familiarity with industry-standard audio recording equipment and software is also helpful.
