The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Contract Review Attorney to contribute legal expertise to AI training projects. You will review and improve contracts, legal documents, and legal data while helping ensure that AI systems receive accurate, nuanced guidance grounded in real-world legal reasoning.

This is a remote, part-time contractor role requiring 20 or more hours per week. Compensation is $60–$75 per hour. Prior AI training experience is not required; the focus is on applying rigorous legal knowledge and judgment.

What You'll Do

You will apply contract, compliance, and legal-research expertise to evaluate and improve materials used in AI training. The work requires careful analysis, clear written reasoning, and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to both legal and non-legal audiences.

  • Conduct detailed contract reviews and identify risks, ambiguities, and opportunities for improvement
  • Research relevant statutes, regulations, and case law to inform project requirements and legal decisions
  • Draft, edit, and evaluate legal documents for accuracy, clarity, and sound reasoning
  • Analyze regulatory compliance issues across multiple jurisdictions
  • Provide guidance aligned with applicable legal standards
  • Write clear explanations and rationales for legal positions and decisions
  • Clarify complex legal concepts through asynchronous written and verbal communication
  • Provide feedback on legal data and contribute to iterative improvements in AI training materials

Required Qualifications

This role requires an active law license or bar admission and at least five years of practice in contract law, compliance, or a closely related specialty. You should be comfortable making careful legal judgments independently in a remote, project-focused environment.
