The Role

OpenTrain AI is recruiting a Civil and Structural BIM Engineer to provide expert engineering input for AI training and evaluation. You will work with civil and structural drawing sets, BIM models, IFC files, design coordination requirements, and applicable engineering codes.

This contractor opportunity is listed as entry level, while the stated requirements call for substantial professional experience in drawing-set authoring, BIM model development, IFC workflows, and multidisciplinary coordination.

What You'll Do

You will combine hands-on BIM authoring with careful technical assessment. Your work will support the improvement of AI engineering systems by making design decisions, workflow constraints, and professional standards clear and precise.

• Create, review, and refine plans, elevations, sections, schedules, and other detailed civil and structural drawing sets.
• Author and manage BIM models for complex or multi-building projects using Revit, ArchiCAD, or BlenderBIM.
• Apply relevant code families, including Eurocode, ACI, ASCE, IS, and BS, when developing and reviewing design work.
• Export and validate IFC 2x3 or IFC4 files, checking geometry, classification, and mapping integrity.
• Evaluate project requirements, identify constructability concerns, and recommend practical improvements.
• Assess BIM tools and data workflows and communicate technical decisions and design rationale clearly.
• Provide domain feedback that helps improve AI engineering systems.

Required Qualifications

This role requires advanced practical experience rather than markup-only or review-only exposure. Candidates should be able to author complete drawing sets, lead model development, and make sound judgments about complex projects and coordination requirements.

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or architecture required; master's degree preferred.
• At least five years of post-degree experience authoring complete drawing sets and leading model development.
• At least three years of daily, expert-level BIM authoring experience with Revit, ArchiCAD, or BlenderBIM.
• Experience with complex or multi-building projects, IFC export and validation, and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes, including Eurocode, ACI, ASCE, IS, or BS.
• Fluent written and spoken English for communicating technical decisions and design rationale.

Helpful Background

The following experience can strengthen an application but is not listed as required:

• Professional licensing or chartered status, such as PE, CEng, or Chartered status.
• OpenBIM scripting skills using ifcopenshell or Python.
• Clash detection experience with Navisworks or Solibri.
• Engineering analysis experience with ETABS, SAP2000, Robot, or Tekla.
• Custom BIM family development.
• Previous AI data annotation experience.
