About AI training and this kind of work

AI training (data labeling) is the human side of building speech and voice systems. Contributors record, review, and rate audio so models learn natural pronunciation, tone, and clarity.

This field is fast-growing, largely remote, and often flexible—ideal for voice actors, audio pros, or anyone who can deliver consistent, high-quality recordings.

  • Work is 100% remote and contractor-based.
  • Many contributors choose schedules that fit around other commitments.

The role

You will record scripted audio samples and short scenario-based reads following provided pronunciation, tone, and clarity guidelines. Recordings are used to train and evaluate AI speech systems, so accuracy and consistency matter.

This is a contracted, paid role: compensation is $30 USD per hour, paid per the project’s payment terms. The project uses internal proprietary tooling for task delivery and submission.

  • Position type: Contractor (OpenTrain AI).
  • Compensation: $30 USD per hour.
  • Data type: Audio; label type: Audio recording; tooling: internal proprietary tooling.

What you'll do day-to-day

Follow short scripts and scenario prompts to record clear, natural-sounding speech samples that match target pronunciations and emotional tones. Some tasks require multiple takes to meet quality standards.

Submit recordings through OpenTrain’s proprietary tooling and follow feedback and QC instructions when a re-take is necessary.

  • Record scripted sentences and scenario reads with consistent pronunciation and tone.
  • Deliver files that meet format, level, and noise requirements specified in task instructions.
  • Respond to quality feedback and perform re-recordings when requested.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the essential technical and linguistic requirements below. Do not apply unless you can meet the recording quality and accent standards.

This project values accuracy and consistency; intermediate experience with voice work or audio recording is expected.

  • Native or near-native US English accent and pronunciation.
  • Access to professional or high-quality recording equipment (mic, interface, quiet space).
  • Stable internet connection for using the proprietary tooling and uploading files.
  • Intermediate experience in voice recording or similar audio work.
  • Ability to follow scripts and detailed instructions about tone, pacing, and pronunciation.

How the process works

Apply through OpenTrain and complete any required onboarding exercises. You’ll receive project-specific instructions and sample recordings to match.

Use the provided proprietary tooling to accept tasks, record and upload audio, and view feedback. QA checks will be applied and occasional re-takes may be requested to meet label standards.

  • Create an OpenTrain account and submit your application.
  • Complete onboarding and sample tasks to qualify.
  • Accept tasks, record using your equipment, and upload via the internal tooling.
  • Follow feedback rounds until recordings meet quality requirements.

Who should apply

This role is a good fit for voice actors, voice-over artists, podcasters, audio engineers, and anyone comfortable delivering high-quality US English speech recordings.

You should be comfortable working as a contractor, following precise recording specs, and iterating based on feedback.

  • Ideal for contributors seeking remote, paid audio work at $30/hr.
  • Open to applicants worldwide who meet the US English accent and equipment requirements.
