The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Technical Documentation and Editing Expert to support a frontier AI data initiative. You will design, evaluate, and refine long-horizon tasks involving technical documentation platforms, API specifications, developer portals, style guides, release notes, and Git repositories.

The work will test source-content interpretation, structural editing, technical documentation authoring, style-guide application, and clear communication of complex technical ideas. You will work under senior review, incorporate calibration feedback, and deliver work aligned with project milestones.

What You'll Do

You will turn representative technical writing and editing workflows into realistic AI training tasks. Your work will combine expert documentation practice with structured task design, reference preparation, and quality evaluation.

• Identify and document technical writing and editing workflows suitable for long-horizon AI task development.
• Author scenarios involving documentation drafting, structural editing, style-guide compliance, API specification formatting, and user guide creation.
• Produce expert tasks and gold-standard solutions that meet the project pod's quality standards.
• Define task context, required source inputs, expected documentation deliverables, and evaluation criteria based on Functional SME Lead standards.
• Prepare reference artifacts, revised drafts, style guidelines, and detailed rubrics for grading accuracy and editorial clarity.
• Validate that tasks can be completed with available tools, source materials, and documentation environments without unsupported external assumptions.
• Review team members' task implementations and provide actionable feedback on technical realism and rubric coverage.

Required Qualifications

This opportunity is listed at the entry level, while the role requires substantial hands-on documentation experience. Applicants should be able to demonstrate the following background and capabilities.

• 3–8 years of hands-on experience as a Technical Writer, Editor, Content Strategist, or in a closely related documentation role.
• Experience with modern documentation tools and workflows such as Markdown, Docs-as-Code, Git, Confluence, Notion, MadCap Flare, or static site generators.
• Professional experience producing user guides, API documentation, release notes, standard operating procedures, knowledge base articles, and copyediting reviews.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts and raw engineering inputs into clear, well-structured, precise documentation.
• Strong editorial judgment when identifying issues in organization, tone, consistency, and clarity.
• Ability to write high-quality prompts, technical scenarios, and structured evaluation rubrics for AI training tasks.
