The role

OpenTrain is hiring a Technical Content Writer to produce polished technical documentation, analyze public datasets for business insights, and explain reasoning using notebooks or other structured artifacts. This is a part-time contractor role requiring 20+ hours per week and an intermediate-level candidate with at least 3 years of relevant experience.

What you'll do

  • Produce clear, accurate, well-organized technical documentation and written deliverables.
  • Analyze public datasets to answer analytical questions and derive actionable business insights.
  • Explain reasoning, methods, and assumptions in notebooks or other structured formats with strong traceability.
  • Work with JSON-based data, ensuring outputs are accurate, consistent, and easy to trace.
  • Use Python scripting for data exploration, validation, and reproducible analysis.
  • Collaborate with researchers and stakeholders to refine insights and finalize deliverables.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the core technical and communication expectations below.

  • 3+ years experience as a technical content writer, analyst, or software developer.
  • Strong technical writing skills producing clear, structured, and accurate content.
  • Comfort working with JSON and interpreting dataset structures.
  • Working knowledge of Python for data exploration, validation, and scripting.
  • Familiarity with notebooks or scripting workflows for reproducible analysis.
  • Good understanding of code quality, formatting, and documentation best practices.
  • Strong analytical judgment and business sense.
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
