  • Expected project duration of 1 to 3 months
  • Pay of $25 to $50 USD per hour

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. People create, review, and evaluate high-quality examples so modern models can learn to reason, communicate, and perform useful tasks.

In this project, your chart interpretation and quantitative reasoning will help shape how AI systems understand visualized data, perform calculations, compare trends, and explain conclusions.

  • No prior AI experience is required
  • Your domain knowledge and analytical judgment are central to the work
  • Contributors help improve how next-generation AI systems reason from real-world information

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking Subject Matter Experts in chart and data visualization analysis for an AI training project. You will work with domain-specific charts, graphs, and information-rich visualizations, applying precise terminology and quantitative reasoning to create high-quality training and evaluation tasks.

The role is listed as entry level, while the preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field and at least two years of professional, academic, or research experience working with relevant charts or quantitative data.

  • Relevant backgrounds include medicine and biostatistics, finance and economics, engineering and physics, earth sciences and GIS, data science and statistics, and operations and manufacturing
  • Work comfortably in English with fluent English proficiency
  • Candidates must be based in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Germany, India, Australia, Switzerland, Ireland, Greenland, or Iceland

What You'll Do

You will develop clear, answerable tasks that require in-depth reasoning, calculations, comparisons, and trend analysis. Each task should be objective, unambiguous, and grounded in the information shown in the chart or visualization.

You will also provide precise answers with detailed, step-by-step explanations. Strong attention to chart terminology, units, axes, scales, legends, confidence intervals, and time periods will be essential.

  • Interpret domain-specific charts, graphs, and data visualizations accurately
  • Design questions that require multi-step quantitative reasoning
  • Create tasks focused on calculations, comparisons, trends, and detailed analysis
  • Author precise solutions and explain calculation steps clearly
  • Use accurate domain terminology and chart features
  • Review work for subjectivity, unsupported conclusions, unnecessary complexity, and ambiguity
  • Collaborate remotely with project coordinators and reviewers through written and verbal communication

Requirements And Preferred Qualifications

You should bring quantitative chart and data visualization analysis expertise, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly in English. An advanced degree, professional credential, or significant industry specialization is highly desirable.

Experience selecting and interpreting complex charts with multiple data series, annotations, or statistical features is preferred. Experience writing technical assessments, benchmark questions, or structured analytical tasks for learning, analytics, or evaluation is also valuable.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant domain
  • At least two years of relevant professional, academic, or research experience preferred
  • Strong chart interpretation accuracy and quantitative reasoning
  • Ability to construct unambiguous, objectively answerable questions
  • Precision with domain-specific terminology
  • Clear technical writing and explanation of calculations
  • Comfort with remote collaboration and asynchronous communication

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is well suited to data-driven professionals, researchers, analysts, and specialists who regularly interpret quantitative charts and explain findings. You do not need previous AI training experience; the project is designed for contributors whose domain knowledge can improve model reasoning.

Apply if you can distinguish supported conclusions from assumptions, handle complex visualizations carefully, and turn analytical insight into clear questions and solutions.

  • Quantitative analysts and data professionals
  • Researchers and academics working with visualized data
  • Professionals in medicine, finance, engineering, earth sciences, statistics, or operations
  • Specialists who communicate technical reasoning clearly in English
