The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Data and Statistical Chart Analysis Expert to create high-quality benchmark material for advanced AI training and evaluation. You will interpret complex statistical visualizations, reason through quantitative questions, and produce objectively verifiable answers with precise explanations.

The work focuses on graphical reasoning across Sankey diagrams, heatmaps, calibration curves, residual plots, correlation matrices, and distribution plots. This is an entry-level contract opportunity requiring at least two years of professional, academic, or research experience involving statistical models, data visualizations, or analytical reporting.

What You’ll Do

You will turn complex visual data into clear, rigorous tasks and solutions that advanced AI systems can use for training and evaluation. Your work should go beyond surface-level chart reading and require careful quantitative reasoning.

You will also communicate your analytical process clearly, incorporate feedback, and maintain consistent project communication while working remotely.

• Interpret statistical and data science visualizations using accurate technical terminology.
• Design clear, objective, multi-step questions with unambiguous answers.
• Create tasks involving trend analysis, comparison, interpolation, graphical reasoning, and statistical inference.
• Provide precise answers with explicit calculations, modeling logic, and step-by-step written explanations.
• Reference units, scales, axes, legends, confidence intervals, and annotations accurately.
• Develop objectively verifiable tasks and solutions for advanced AI training and evaluation.
• Collaborate through written and verbal communication, incorporate feedback, and maintain project communication.

Required Qualifications

You should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in data science, statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, operations research, or a related quantitative discipline. At least two years of professional, academic, or research experience involving statistical models, data visualizations, or analytical reporting is required.

Strong English communication is essential. You must be able to explain calculations, analytical processes, modeling logic, and quantitative conclusions clearly and determine whether a question and its answer are objectively verifiable.

• Advanced ability to interpret diverse chart types, including axes, scales, legends, units, confidence intervals, and statistical annotations.
• Strong quantitative reasoning across trends, comparisons, interpolation, correlation, and statistical inference.
• Ability to design objective, multi-step benchmark questions with unambiguous answers.
• Ability to explain calculations, modeling logic, and analytical conclusions in clear written English.
• Academic or professional grounding in statistics, data science, applied mathematics, computer science, or operations research.

Helpful Background

Experience creating structured analytical material can help you succeed in this role. Background in technical documentation, publication, assessment design, benchmark questions, technical reports, data annotation, or AI-generated output evaluation is valued.

Bilingual proficiency in English and a relevant second language is also helpful, although English is the required working language.
