The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Sociology Assessment and Rubric Expert to create and evaluate educational materials used in an AI training project. You will translate sociological concepts and current research into clear assessment tasks, aligned rubrics, and actionable feedback that support rigorous, authentic, and transferable learning experiences.

This role combines postsecondary sociology expertise with assessment design, academic judgment, and structured evaluation of educational content. The position is listed as entry level, while the work requires advanced subject-matter expertise and relevant teaching, research, or publication experience.

What You'll Do

You will develop and review text-based educational materials, documenting the reasoning behind your decisions so assessments and rubrics can transfer across educational contexts. Collaboration is asynchronous, with iterative refinement based on peer and project feedback.

• Design measurable assessment prompts rooted in sociological concepts for educators
• Create task-aligned rubrics using Bloom's taxonomy and other established pedagogical frameworks
• Review educational materials for clarity, rigor, authenticity, and academic integrity
• Synthesize relevant sociological literature and research to keep tasks and rubrics accurate and current
• Document the rationale and criteria behind assessments and rubrics
• Provide clear written and verbal communication when collaborating with experts and stakeholders
• Refine materials in response to peer and project feedback

Requirements

Applicants should bring advanced academic expertise in sociology or a closely related discipline, along with practical experience designing assessments and scoring rubrics. You should be comfortable distilling complex sociological theories into clear educational content and making objective, well-supported evaluations.

• Advanced academic expertise in sociology or a closely related discipline
• Postsecondary sociology teaching experience
• Active research or publication record
• Professional experience developing high-quality assessment tasks and scoring rubrics
• Working knowledge of Bloom's taxonomy and other assessment frameworks
• Ability to synthesize sociological literature and research
• Strong analytical, research synthesis, constructive feedback, and objective review skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication with a commitment to clarity and academic rigor
• PhD or ABD-level preparation in sociology or a closely related field preferred
