About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect contributors to projects where they write, review, and refine the examples that teach modern AI systems.

We focus on accessible, flexible remote work that helps people start and grow careers shaping how state-of-the-art AI behaves.

About This AI Training Work

AI training (data labeling / human feedback) is the human side of model development: people create and evaluate examples that determine how models learn and respond. This project centers on generating and assessing Slurm-focused prompts, scripted examples, and model responses to teach AI systems accurate HPC and scheduler behavior.

Projects like this are ideal for experienced practitioners who want flexible, part-time work that directly influences real AI systems.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Slurm Workload Manager Subject Matter Expert (SME) based in India to contribute to dataset creation and quality evaluation. This is a contractor, part-time role delivering high-quality prompts, scripted examples, and assessments that train models on Slurm concepts and best practices.

Pay: USD 27 per hour. Time commitment: less than 20 hours per week (you must specify an exact weekly-hour commitment during the interview). Engagement type: contractor, part-time. Work is remote but you must be located in India.

  • Data types: computer code / programming examples.
  • Labeling tasks: writing code examples, evaluating and rating model outputs.
  • (project-specific tooling).

What You'll Do

Create detailed scripting prompts and high-quality example responses that teach AI models Slurm workload management principles, including job submission, advanced scheduling, resource allocation, and troubleshooting.

Evaluate, rank, and refine AI-generated outputs to improve accuracy, detect biases or misunderstandings, and provide precise corrective feedback and documentation.

  • Produce clear, reproducible Slurm scripts and explanations (Bash/Python/Perl examples).
  • Rank and annotate model responses for correctness, completeness, and safety.
  • Document reasoning and edge cases to guide future training iterations.
  • Work independently to deliver consistent, precise outputs on schedule.

Requirements

Candidates must meet all substantive requirements below; we will verify skills in a live coding/skill test. Dishonesty during evaluation results in permanent ban from the OpenTrain AI platform.

Although the project is part-time, we require clear availability and an exact weekly-hours commitment during the interview.

  • Located in India (required).
  • C1 level English proficiency (must be able to demonstrate during interview).
  • 7+ years professional experience working with Slurm workload management systems.
  • Strong scripting experience with Python, Bash, or Perl.
  • Experience with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (for documenting examples and lightweight demos).
  • Familiarity with HPC tools: Git, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, Ansible, Puppet.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

Interview & Hiring Process (Important)

All candidates will undergo a coding/skill test and a live interview. You must be prepared to complete practical Slurm tasks and explain your solutions.

If you are dishonest during the interview or assessment, you will be permanently banned from the OpenTrain AI platform.

  • At the start of the interview you will be informed about the coding/skill test and live interview format.
  • Interviewers will collect and include these answers in the AI interview summary: highest level of education; exact years of Slurm experience; an exact number of hours per week you can commit (no broad ranges).
  • Interviewers will avoid leading questions (for example, they will ask 'What level of English do you have?' rather than 'Do you have C1 English?').

Who Should Apply & How To Apply

Apply if you are an experienced Slurm practitioner in India who wants flexible, part-time contract work helping shape AI behavior. This role is ideal for engineers who can produce precise code examples, evaluate model outputs critically, and document complex workflows clearly.

To apply, prepare a concise summary of your Slurm experience (projects you built, optimized, or managed), your highest education level, and the exact hours per week you can commit. Be ready for the coding test and live interview.

  • Be honest and specific in your application—dishonesty will lead to permanent removal from the platform.
  • Compensation: USD 27 per hour (pay-per-hour).
  • Employment types: Contractor, Part-time.
