The role

OpenTrain is hiring a Malayalam Language Specialist to review AI-generated Malayalam content, produce gold-standard answers, and rate model responses. This is a contractor, part-time role focused on text tasks (RLHF, evaluation rating, and text generation).

• Work type: Contractor, Part-time.
• Time commitment: 20+ hours per week.
• Pay: $20.00 USD per hour (pay-per-hour).
• Languages required: Malayalam (ml) and English (en).
• Location: Applicants must be based in India (IN), Qatar (QA), Saudi Arabia (SA), or United Arab Emirates (AE).

What you'll do day-to-day

Evaluate AI outputs against language, cultural, and factual standards and produce clear, actionable feedback. Write precise rewrites and gold-standard model answers to guide model improvements.

• Review Malayalam outputs for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, register, and cultural appropriateness.
• Write rewrites and gold-standard Malayalam answers that preserve meaning and fit the intended audience.
• Compare multiple model responses and rate them by fluency, fidelity, tone, and safety.
• Detect mistranslations, awkward literal phrasing, hallucinations, bias, and policy-risk language.
• Fact-check claims when needed and rewrite misleading wording to be safe and accurate.

Requirements

You must be able to produce high-quality Malayalam writing and clear English feedback. Preserve every listed qualification — they reflect essential skills for the role.

• Native or near-native Malayalam reading and writing ability.
• Strong professional English proficiency (C1 level or higher).
• Background in linguistics, Malayalam or English literature, communications, journalism, translation, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of professional experience in writing, editing, localization, translation, content QA, journalism, education, or similar language-focused work.
• Strong understanding of Malayalam grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and register.
• Experience with AI data training, translation QA, editorial QA, or rubric-based evaluation is strongly preferred.

Additional expectations

You will be expected to show sound editorial judgment, explain quality differences between outputs, and apply cultural knowledge to make model text appropriate for different audiences and regional contexts.

• Ability to compare AI responses and explain why one is stronger than another.
• Skill at writing safe rewrites and correcting misleading or factually incorrect phrasing.
• Comfort producing structured feedback and following rubrics during evaluation tasks.
