About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with projects that shape how state-of-the-art AI systems behave, offering flexible remote work and a community for growing AI-training careers.

Why AI Training Work Matters

AI models learn from human-reviewed examples. Contributors who review and correct model outputs directly improve model quality and safety. This work is highly flexible, often remote, and a fast-growing way to apply technical skills to impactful real-world AI systems.

The Role

We are seeking a Rust Subject Matter Expert (SME) based in India with C1-level English to review, debug, and correct Rust code produced by AI models. You will identify bugs, improve code quality to industry best practices, and document clear explanations for every correction so models learn from human feedback.

  • Position type: Contractor, part-time.
  • Compensation: USD 26 per hour (pay-per-hour).
  • Expected minimum availability: typically 20+ hours/week; you will be asked to state an exact weekly commitment during the interview.

What You'll Do

Work independently to evaluate and correct AI-generated Rust code. Produce reproducible fixes, explain the reasoning behind changes, and provide concise technical documentation that helps the training process. Maintain consistent, high-quality output and manage tasks efficiently.

  • Review AI-generated Rust snippets and complete programs for correctness, safety, performance, and style.
  • Debug issues, propose fixes, and provide patched code examples.
  • Document each correction with clear, English explanations and references to best practices.
  • Rate and evaluate model outputs according to provided guidelines.

Requirements

Applicants must meet every qualification listed below. We will verify experience and test technical ability during the interview process.

  • 7+ years professional experience with the Rust programming language; be prepared to describe real-world Rust projects you built.
  • Located in India (must be based in India to apply).
  • C1 level English proficiency (strong written communication required).
  • Strong debugging skills, technical documentation experience, and ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver consistent, high-quality results on a part-time contractor schedule.

Interview, Testing, and Conduct Rules

Candidates must pass a coding/skill test and a live interview to be considered. The coding test is administered at the start of the interview process and will assess practical Rust knowledge and debugging ability.

Honesty is strictly required: any candidate found to be dishonest during the interview will be permanently banned from the OpenTrain AI platform.

  • At the start of the interview you will take a coding/skill test and a live interview.
  • During the interview you will be asked to provide (and answers will be recorded in the AI interview summary): your highest level of education; exact years of Rust experience; and the exact number of hours per week you can commit if hired (no broad ranges such as "20+ hours/week" — provide a precise
  • Interview answers and test results are used to verify fit and will be required for hire.

Who Should Apply

Experienced Rust developers who are comfortable explaining technical decisions in clear English and who want flexible, impactful work helping AI systems improve. This role suits senior engineers who prefer contract, part-time remote work and who can commit to the required weekly hours.

How To Apply / Next Steps

If you meet the requirements, apply with a concise summary of your Rust experience and examples of real projects you built. Be prepared to complete a coding test and live interview that asks for your education, exact Rust experience in years, and the exact weekly hours you can commit.

  • Include concrete examples of Rust projects in your application (what you built, responsibilities, and outcomes).
  • If invited, you will take the coding test at the start of the interview—honesty is mandatory; dishonesty results in a permanent ban.
