About OpenTrain
OpenTrain is the centralized, open platform where AI training and data-labeling freelancers find work, consolidate opportunities across platforms, and build a unified AI training portfolio they control. We make specialized AI training work easier to track, apply for, and grow into a durable freelance career.
About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Robotics Video Annotation Expert to support AI training data development for robotic systems. This is a remote contractor role with an hourly rate of $50 to $90. You will review footage of robotic arms performing tasks, identify actions and failures, and apply consistent judgments about whether each task was completed correctly. This role combines detailed video annotation with practical robotics knowledge, including motion, grasping, perception, sensors, and system integration.
What you will do
Watch recordings of robotic arms performing assigned tasks and annotate them using detailed technical guidelines. Mark where actions and events begin and end within each session. Evaluate correct and faulty robot behavior, including missed grasps, dropped objects, poor paths, and inaccurate positioning. Apply annotation rules consistently across repeated video sessions to support reliable training data. Escalate unclear or borderline cases rather than guessing, and help clarify recurring annotation issues. Explain likely causes of robot failures using relevant robotics and system-integration knowledge. Suggest improvements when guidelines contain gaps or create repeated confusion. Complete assigned annotation volume on time while meeting the required quality standard.
Required skills
Candidates should have a background in robotics, mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related technical discipline, along with hands-on experience with robotic arms or robotic systems in industry, research, or laboratory settings. You should have working knowledge of robot motion control, grasping, perception, and sensors; be able to distinguish correct from faulty robot behavior by watching video footage; and demonstrate strong attention to detail when reviewing similar material. You must be able to follow written technical guidelines precisely and communicate clearly with a remote team. Previous experience with video annotation or data labeling is helpful, but prior AI experience is not required.
Why work with OpenTrain
OpenTrain gives freelancers one place to manage AI training opportunities instead of rebuilding proof of work on every platform. A stronger OpenTrain profile helps you show credible experience, discover roles that match your skills, and turn AI training and data-labeling work into a long-term portfolio.
