The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Python Backend Engineer for AI Agent Infrastructure. You will work on one of two related tracks: building and validating connectors that faithfully replicate SaaS tools, or developing realistic long-horizon tasks and the rubrics used to evaluate them.

The engagement lasts four weeks and pays $300 per approved task. You must complete and receive approval for at least one task per day, with no stated cap while work is available.

What You’ll Do

You will build backend applications and evaluation materials that represent realistic business software workflows. The work includes development, validation, task authoring, quality assurance, and calibration against agreed milestones.

• Build Python backend applications that replicate tools such as Slack, Linear, Jira, Notion, Gmail, and wikis
• Extend existing connectors and test whether they faithfully behave like the systems they emulate
• Mine data and workflows to identify opportunities for realistic long-horizon task development
• Author tasks and verify their realism, quality, and correctness through structured QA
• Write evaluation rubrics that distinguish correct, partially correct, and deficient work
• Use AI coding assistants during development, QA, and validation
• Participate in calibration and quality reviews
• Deliver work against agreed milestones

Required Qualifications

This opportunity is categorized as entry level in the supplied role data, but the role itself requires at least three years of backend development experience and strong Python proficiency. Applicants should be able to independently assess technical correctness, realistic workflows, and quality standards.

• At least three years of backend development experience
• Strong Python proficiency
• Hands-on experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django
• Experience developing scalable backends, REST APIs, and microservices
• Working knowledge of Git, Docker, pipeline fundamentals, testing, and code-quality practices
• Daily experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools
• Ability to validate SaaS connector behavior and assess technical correctness
• Ability to create realistic tasks with clear evaluation criteria
