About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. People with specialized knowledge help models learn by writing examples, answering complex questions, evaluating responses, and identifying technical errors or weaknesses.

In this role, your physics expertise will help shape how AI systems reason about advanced concepts in statistical physics, quantum information, and condensed matter theory.

  • Work at the cutting edge of a fast-growing technology field
  • Use your subject-matter expertise without needing prior AI experience
  • Contribute to high-quality text generation, evaluation, and question-answering tasks
  • Work remotely with a flexible workload

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Physics Expert specializing in statistical physics, quantum information, or condensed matter theory. You will provide expert analysis, solutions, critiques, and adjudication to support AI training projects involving advanced theoretical and numerical physics.

Assignments may position you as a Solver, Auditor, or Adjudicator depending on your experience and subfield strengths. The expected project duration is one to three months, with a typical schedule of 5 to 10 or more hours per week while remaining under 20 hours weekly.

  • Compensation: $100-$200 per hour
  • Typical rate: $150 per hour
  • Engagement: part-time contractor
  • Project duration: expected one to three months
  • Working language: English

What You'll Do

You will analyze challenging statistical physics and quantum information problems and communicate your reasoning clearly. Your work may include both written expert review and advanced numerical analysis.

You will also help identify and resolve technical issues in problems involving dualities, disorder, domain-wall free energy, topological defects, and related phenomena.

  • Analyze replicated random-bond Ising and Ashkin-Teller models
  • Study the toric-code threshold and the Nishimori line
  • Provide documented solutions or critiques involving Kramers-Wannier duality
  • Apply quenched disorder averaging and square-lattice self-duality
  • Analyze domain-wall free energy
  • Conduct and interpret numerical work involving the 4-state Potts model
  • Investigate noncontractible loop defects and related topological features
  • Complete text labeling, evaluation rating, text generation, and question-answering tasks

Required Qualifications

This is an expert-level opportunity for someone with an advanced academic background or equivalent experience in physics. Strong familiarity with the listed research methods and models is essential.

Fluent English proficiency is required because assignments involve producing and evaluating detailed technical text.

  • PhD or equivalent experience in physics
  • Specialization in statistical physics, quantum information, or condensed matter theory
  • Hands-on experience with Kramers-Wannier duality
  • Experience with quenched disorder averaging and square-lattice self-duality
  • Proficiency in 4-state Potts model numerical simulations
  • Experience analyzing domain-wall free energy
  • Familiarity with topological quantum codes, especially the toric code and threshold phenomena
  • Experience with text labeling workflows
  • Experience with evaluation rating, text generation, and question-answering tasks
  • Fluent English and comfort working in English

How to Apply
