Creating an OpenTrain account is free, and eligible candidates can apply in minutes for flexible work that fits around research, teaching, or other commitments.

  • Remote contractor opportunity available worldwide
  • Flexible part-time schedule with after-hours and weekend availability supported
  • Expected commitment of less than 20 hours per week

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts provide carefully prepared examples, rigorous evaluations, and high-quality feedback so models can produce more accurate, useful, and reliable results.

In this role, your physics knowledge will support question answering, text generation, and evaluation tasks. Your analyses can directly influence how AI systems handle advanced scientific reasoning.

  • Apply specialized subject-matter knowledge to real AI development workflows
  • Work with text-based question answering, generation, and evaluation tasks
  • No prior AI experience is required when you bring the necessary domain expertise

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Physics Expert with PhD-level or postdoctoral research experience to solve advanced physics problems and produce rigorous, well-documented technical work. You will explain derivations, assumptions, approximations, special cases, and final results with a high standard of scientific precision.

This is a contractor, part-time engagement conducted fully remotely. Compensation is $100 to $200 per hour, with an expected project commitment of approximately 10 hours per week over an anticipated 1- to 3-month period.

  • Role type: Contractor and part-time
  • Location: Worldwide and fully remote
  • Pay: $100 to $200 per hour
  • Schedule: 10 to 15 or more hours per week, fully flexible
  • Project engagement: Approximately 8 to 10 weeks, with an expected duration of 1 to 3 months
  • Working language: English

What You'll Do

You will contribute technically precise solutions that help evaluate and improve AI systems. Work should be clearly written, reproducible, and detailed enough for expert review, using LaTeX mathematical notation and computational tools where relevant.

  • Solve advanced physics problems within your area of specialization
  • Provide rigorous derivations, analyses, assumptions, approximations, and final results
  • Use LaTeX to present mathematical content clearly
  • Use SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for symbolic or numerical verification when relevant
  • Identify subtleties such as special cases, boundary conditions, and dimensional consistency
  • Flag ambiguities in project materials and propose well-reasoned interpretations
  • Revise submitted solutions in response to reviewer feedback
  • Maintain professional standards for documentation and reproducibility

Required Expertise and Qualifications

This opportunity is designed for an expert physicist with advanced research and scientific problem-solving experience. Your ability to isolate key physical principles, reason through complex problems, and communicate conclusions precisely is central to the work.

  • PhD in physics or advanced-stage PhD candidacy
  • Active research experience in a relevant physics subfield
  • Advanced physics research and scientific problem-solving expertise
  • Strong mathematical and computational fluency
  • Excellent written technical communication
  • Proficiency with LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter, or willingness to identify areas where support is needed
  • Experience with text-labeling workflows
  • Experience with question answering, text generation, and evaluation rating tasks
  • Fluent English proficiency and comfort working in English
  • Availability to participate consistently for the project period

Relevant Research Areas

Research experience in one or more of the following areas is relevant: high energy physics, mathematical physics, biophysics, statistical physics, condensed matter, AMO and quantum optics, gravitation, cosmology, astrophysics, quantum information, or optical properties of materials.

  • Condensed matter experience may include moiré systems, magnetism, or PXP and Rydberg systems
  • Recent representative publications from approximately the past five years are preferred
  • Accessible arXiv or DOI records for two to five recent publications are preferred

Why Join the AI Training Industry

AI training is a fast-growing field where specialists help determine how cutting-edge models perform. Physics researchers can bring valuable depth to scientific reasoning tasks while working remotely and choosing a schedule that complements their existing commitments.

This project offers a way to apply research-grade analytical skills beyond traditional academic workflows and contribute directly to the development of next-generation AI.

  • Work from anywhere with a computer and internet connection
  • Choose a flexible workload that can fit around research or other responsibilities
  • Help shape how AI models learn, reason, and communicate about physics
