About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Engineers and expert contributors create, review, and evaluate examples that help AI systems produce more capable and reliable results. In this project, your software-engineering judgment will help assess coding tasks and AI-generated patches.

  • Apply real engineering expertise to cutting-edge AI development
  • Evaluate code for correctness, completeness, security, and maintainability
  • Work remotely with a flexible schedule

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking highly skilled open-source software engineers for a short-term AI training project involving repository exploration, software development, debugging, system architecture, and code evaluation. You will create, solve, review, and validate challenging engineering tasks across front-end and back-end systems.

The work may also include translating complete coding builds from one programming language into another. Candidates should have a public or otherwise verifiable GitHub profile and be ready to discuss repositories, pull requests, issues, and code they personally authored.

This contractor role is global and fully remote, with an expected commitment of approximately 15 hours per week. The project is expected to last under one month, and selected experts should be ready to begin their first tasks within 24–48 hours of completing onboarding.

  • Compensation: $100–$150 per hour
  • Contractor and part-time engagement
  • Approximately 15 hours per week
  • Expected project duration: under one month
  • English-language work with fluent English proficiency required
  • Immediate availability preferred

What You’ll Work On

You will work with unfamiliar codebases and apply strong engineering practices to solve realistic software-development problems. Tasks may span front-end, back-end, full-stack, systems, infrastructure, developer tooling, and related technical areas.

  • Explore and understand unfamiliar software repositories
  • Implement, modify, and debug front-end and back-end components
  • Trace data and execution across interfaces, services, libraries, APIs, databases, and external dependencies
  • Reproduce software issues and identify their underlying causes
  • Implement solutions that fit existing architecture and contribution standards
  • Write unit, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests
  • Review AI-generated patches for correctness, completeness, security, and maintainability
  • Complete computer-code programming and text-generation evaluation tasks

Required Qualifications

This opportunity is intended for intermediate-level software engineers with demonstrated open-source experience and the ability to work independently in unfamiliar technical environments. Meaningful engineering contributions matter more than minor repository updates.

  • Public or otherwise verifiable GitHub profile
  • Meaningful ownership of or contributions to one or more open-source repositories
  • Strong software-engineering experience in front-end, back-end, full-stack, systems, developer tooling, infrastructure, or another substantial technical area
  • Experience with multiple programming languages
  • Ability to understand and modify unfamiliar codebases
  • Experience with computer-code programming labeling workflows
  • Experience with text-generation tasks
  • Open-source software engineering and AI code evaluation expertise
  • Fluency in English

Relevant Programming Experience

Relevant experience may include work with the languages below or other languages used in substantial open-source projects. Be prepared to describe the engineering work you personally completed and explain the impact of your contributions.

  • Python
  • Java
  • Rust
  • C++
  • TypeScript
  • Go or Golang
  • JavaScript, C#, Ruby, PHP, or other relevant languages

Compensation and Submission Requirements

Compensation is output-based. Experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications, and the time needed for each task may vary based on experience and workflow. The advertised equivalent rate is $100–$150 per hour.

Minimum submission requirements apply, meaning experts must submit a minimum number of tasks each week. The expected weekly commitment is under 20 hours.
