The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking expert Software Engineers specializing in open source contributions. You will work on high-quality software development tasks across existing codebases, helping improve the programming examples and evaluations used in AI systems.

This is a contractor, part-time project expected to last under one month. The expected weekly commitment is under 20 hours, and selected experts should be ready to begin their first tasks within 24 to 48 hours after completing onboarding.

What You'll Do

You will develop and evaluate solutions in established open source codebases. Work may involve implementing features, resolving difficult bugs, improving legacy systems, and documenting technical decisions clearly for other contributors and reviewers.

  • Analyze and resolve complex bugs with robust, maintainable solutions

Requirements and Qualifications

This role is intended for expert-level software engineers with substantial open source experience. Candidates should be comfortable solving complex programming problems, evaluating code carefully, and communicating implementation details in precise written English.

  • Expert-level proficiency in at least two of Python, C++, Java, Rust, TypeScript, Go, or C#
  • Extensive open source experience in feature development, bug fixing, and codebase refactoring
  • Demonstrated expertise in competitive programming and complex coding problem analysis
  • Strong analytical ability to interpret constraints and identify multiple solution paths
  • Experience with computer code programming labeling workflows
  • Experience with text generation and evaluation rating tasks
