Software Engineering RL Environment Contributor

You will create reliable training examples for AI systems by building reinforcement learning environments. These environments test software engineering tasks such as fixing defects, adding features, refactoring code, and improving performance.

You will also write reference solutions, explain your technical decisions, and review other contributors' code and submissions for accuracy and clarity.

• Build reproducible environments for complex software engineering problems.
• Create reference solutions that show the expected result for each task.
• Contribute code samples and debugging approaches in Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++, and TypeScript.
• Find defects and performance bottlenecks in different codebases.
• Develop maintainable features and modernize older code through refactoring and optimization.
• Document technical reasoning, solution methods, and code decisions.
• Review peer code and technical submissions for accuracy and clarity.

What it pays and takes

This is a part-time contractor role marked as entry level, but it requires significant hands-on software engineering expertise. Previous AI experience is not required.

• $50 to $100 per hour equivalent, paid per task that meets the project specifications.
• Less than 20 hours per week.

• Fluent English is required.
• Strong skills in at least one of Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript.
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles.
• Ability to debug complex systems, resolve defects, and improve performance.
• Clear technical documentation and communication skills.
• A verifiable open-source contribution history with a GitHub or GitLab profile.
• Experience refactoring large codebases or modernizing older systems is valuable.
• Experience delivering substantial features from planning through completion in cross-functional projects is helpful.
