OpenTrain AI connects skilled contributors with cutting-edge AI training work and helps them build durable careers in data labeling and model development. As the hiring and contracting organization for this role, OpenTrain provides a place to showcase your experience, discover relevant projects, and apply your expertise to the future of AI.
AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Software engineers contribute by creating realistic coding challenges, preparing reliable reference solutions, and evaluating model-generated code so AI systems can become more capable, accurate, and useful.
OpenTrain AI is recruiting a Software Engineering RL Environment Contributor to create high-quality training data for reinforcement learning systems. You will design reproducible environments that test models on realistic software engineering challenges, including defect resolution, feature development, refactoring, and performance improvement.
The role combines hands-on software development with detailed documentation and technical review. You will help establish clear, dependable examples that allow AI systems to learn from strong engineering practices and sound technical reasoning.
You must have significant hands-on expertise in at least one of Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript. Strong judgment in algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles is essential, along with the ability to debug complex systems, resolve defects, and optimize performance.
Experience refactoring large codebases or modernizing legacy systems is valuable. Clear technical documentation and communication skills are required, as is a verifiable open-source contribution history through a GitHub or GitLab profile.
Experience delivering substantial features from conception through completion in cross-functional projects is helpful. Curiosity about AI and its technical challenges is welcome, but previous AI experience is not required.
OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. A stronger OpenTrain profile helps you present credible experience, find projects that match your skills, and turn flexible AI work into a long-term professional portfolio.
