The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Software Engineering Code Evaluation Expert for remote contractor work focused on software engineering AI training. You will create reproducible coding environments and reference solutions that help evaluate how AI systems solve complex software engineering problems.

Prior AI training experience is not required. Strong real-world software engineering knowledge is the most important qualification for this role.

What You'll Do

You will contribute expert code, technical reasoning, and evaluations across a range of software engineering scenarios. Your work will help create reliable training and assessment materials for AI systems.

  • Create coding problems and environments involving bug fixing, feature development, code refactoring, and performance optimization
  • Contribute expert code samples, debugging strategies, and development insights in Python 3, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript
  • Analyze software defects and performance bottlenecks
  • Implement robust features and modernize legacy code
  • Document technical reasoning and explain development decisions
  • Review and validate peer-contributed code and technical submissions for accuracy and clarity

Requirements

This position is designed for someone with substantial hands-on software engineering experience. You should be comfortable solving complex technical problems, evaluating implementation quality, and communicating your reasoning clearly in writing.

  • Significant hands-on expertise in at least one of Python 3, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript
  • Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, debugging, and software engineering principles
  • Experience developing features, optimizing performance, or refactoring large or legacy codebases
  • Ability to document technical reasoning and communicate code decisions clearly
  • Ability to debug complex systems and deliver effective optimizations
  • Experience delivering features through cross-functional projects is preferred
