About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people start and grow careers teaching AI by bringing specialized projects, tools, and a unified portfolio into one place.

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role; we connect experienced professionals with hands-on work that directly improves AI systems used across healthcare and other industries.

About AI Training Work in Healthcare

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback) is the human side of building intelligent systems. For healthcare billing, contributors review model outputs — for example, claims edits and coding suggestions — and provide judgments and structured feedback that become training data.

This work is often remote and flexible, and it lets experienced billers shape how AI supports revenue cycle operations while earning competitive contractor pay.

The Role

You will evaluate AI-generated billing outputs, claim edits, and coding validations to ensure accuracy and payer compliance, and deliver structured annotations that improve model performance.

This is a part-time contractor role requiring 20+ hours per week. Pay is $80/hour. Work is restricted to applicants located in the United States and requires professional-level English communication.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours/week
  • Pay: $80 USD per hour
  • Location: United States only
  • Work will involve TEXT data and label types including EVALUATION_RATING and TEXT_GENERATION

What You'll Do

Perform detailed reviews of AI-created claims, edits, and coding suggestions against payer rules and billing standards. Provide clear, structured feedback used to train and refine models and SOPs.

  • Review AI-generated billing outputs, claim edits, and coding validations for accuracy and payer compliance.
  • Evaluate professional fee and facility billing workflows across claims submission and adjudication.
  • Assess electronic claim generation, clearinghouse edits, and payer-specific requirements.
  • Track and report clean claim rates, rejection rates, and first-pass acceptance rates and recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate issue resolution and escalate findings across coding, clinical documentation improvement (CDI), and collections workflows.
  • Annotate AI outputs and deliver structured feedback for training datasets and SOP refinement.

Requirements

You must have deep, hands-on experience managing billing and claims processes and be comfortable judging AI-generated content for correctness and compliance.

  • Minimum 5+ years of medical billing and claims management experience, including at least 2 years in a management role.
  • Deep knowledge of CMS-1500 and UB-04 claim forms, HIPAA 837 transaction standards, and clearinghouse operations.
  • Strong understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer billing rules and policies.
  • Familiarity with billing platforms such as Epic, Athenahealth, or AdvancedMD and common clearinghouse tools.
  • High attention to detail and strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to identify billing errors, compliance issues, and payer-specific rejection causes in AI outputs.

Helpful Background (Preferred)

These credentials and experiences make you especially effective in this role but are not strictly required unless stated in a specific posting.

  • Certifications such as CPC, CCS, CHFP, or CRCR.
  • Experience implementing automated billing platforms, RCM technology, or clearinghouse integrations.
  • Background in physician group, hospital, or health system billing operations.
  • Experience with payer contract interpretation or managing a billing compliance program.

How Work and Payments Are Handled

As a contractor with OpenTrain AI you'll log hours on tasks reviewing and annotating AI outputs. Your annotations and evaluation ratings directly feed training datasets that improve billing automation.

Compensation for this role is hourly at $80 USD. OpenTrain manages contracting and payments for this engagement; further onboarding, task instructions, and quality guidelines will be provided after selection.

Who Should Apply

Experienced medical billing managers and senior revenue cycle professionals who want to apply operational knowledge to shape AI systems should apply. This role is ideal for people who enjoy detailed, compliance-focused work, can communicate findings clearly, and want flexible, remote contract work.

  • You must be based in the United States and fluent in professional English.
  • This role is best for professionals seeking steady part-time contractor work (20+ hours/week) at an expert pay rate.
