About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people start and grow careers teaching AI by connecting contributors with projects that shape how state-of-the-art models behave. Creating an OpenTrain account is free.

About AI training work

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building artificial intelligence: people prepare, review, and improve examples that modern models learn from. Contributors do tasks such as annotating code, evaluating model outputs, and documenting corrections that help models produce safer, more accurate results.

This role puts you on the cutting edge of how developer-facing AI systems learn to write and reason about code. Many projects are fully remote and flexible, making them a great fit for experienced technologists who want part-time contract work.

The role

We are hiring a Julia programming language Subject Matter Expert (SME) based in India with C1-level English proficiency to contribute to AI training dataset development. You will review, debug, and correct code generated by AI models, and clearly document each correction and its rationale so model trainers can improve future outputs.

This is a contract, part-time position paid per hour at USD 27/hour. Expected time commitment is about 20+ hours per week; exact availability will be confirmed during the interview (candidates must state an exact number of hours per week).

What you'll do

Your primary responsibilities will center on evaluating AI-generated Julia code, fixing errors, and explaining corrections in clear English so the dataset captures best practices and idiomatic Julia usage.

  • Review AI-generated Julia code for correctness, performance, and style.
  • Debug and correct functional or logical issues in scripts, functions, and modules.
  • Document each correction with a clear explanation of the problem, the fix, and why the change is recommended.
  • Provide ratings or evaluations of model outputs where requested (evaluation/rating label tasks).
  • Work independently and manage assigned tasks to deliver consistent, high-quality output.

Requirements and qualifications

All of the following requirements are mandatory and will be verified during the selection process.

  • 7+ years of professional experience with the Julia programming language; be prepared to discuss what you built with Julia and provide real-world examples.
  • Located in India (candidates must be based in India).
  • English proficiency at C1 level (written communication must be clear and detailed).
  • Strong debugging skills, technical documentation experience, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts in writing.
  • Attention to detail, analytical thinking, independent work habits, and reliable task management.

Interview, testing, and honesty policy

At the start of the interview you will be required to complete a coding/skill test and a live interview. If you are dishonest during the interview or skill test, you will be permanently banned from the OpenTrain AI platform.

During the interview you must provide answers to specific administrative questions; your answers will be recorded clearly in the AI interview summary.

  • You will be asked to state your highest level of education and the number of years of Julia experience you have.
  • You must state an exact number of hours per week you can commit if hired (for example: "20-25 hours per week" is acceptable as an exact range; open-ended "20+" is not).
  • Be prepared for live coding or debugging tasks and to explain your reasoning and fixes in English.

How to apply

Apply through OpenTrain with a current resume and a short cover note that highlights your Julia experience and examples of projects you built or maintained. In your submission, confirm you are located in India and confirm your C1-level English proficiency.

If selected for interview, you will be scheduled for the coding/skill test and live interview where you must provide your education, exact Julia experience years, and exact weekly availability. Honest, detailed answers are required.

  • Compensation: USD 27 per hour, contractor, part-time.
  • Work type: Contract / Part-time; data type: computer code programming (code review, debugging, evaluation).
  • Labeling tasks include code corrections and evaluation/rating of outputs; labeling software is listed as Other.
