About OpenTrain AI
OpenTrain AI is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We hire and contract specialists who teach AI by reviewing model outputs, correcting errors, and creating high-quality training examples. This role is staffed and managed directly by OpenTrain AI.
Why work in AI training
AI training is the human side of building modern models: people prepare, evaluate, and correct examples that models learn from. This work is fast-growing, often remote, and a way to influence how state-of-the-art systems behave.
Many contributors choose AI training for flexible, part-time work that fits around other commitments while staying on the cutting edge of software and model behavior. Your expertise directly improves the quality of real AI systems.
The role
We are seeking a Lua programming Subject Matter Expert (SME) based in India with C1-level English to contribute to AI training dataset development. You will review, debug, and correct code produced by AI models so examples meet industry standards and follow best practices.
You must clearly document and explain every correction so the AI can learn from the changes; clear written technical explanations in English are a core part of the job.
What you'll do day to day
- Review AI-generated Lua code for correctness, style, performance, security, and maintainability.
- Debug broken or incomplete code and produce corrected, working Lua examples.
- Write concise, step-by-step explanations documenting each correction and the rationale behind it.
- Follow established industry best practices and coding standards for Lua.
- Provide structured evaluations and ratings of model outputs as part of dataset quality control.
- Work independently, manage tasks efficiently, and deliver consistent high-quality output on schedule.
Requirements
Candidates must meet every item below; we will verify qualifications during a coding/skill test and a live interview.
- Located in India (must be based in India to be considered).
- 7+ years of professional experience with the Lua programming language; be prepared to give concrete real-world examples of projects you built with Lua.
- C1 level English proficiency — able to write clear, technical explanations and documentation.
- Strong debugging skills and experience producing production-quality Lua code.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts in writing.
Interview and selection process (must-read)
All candidates must complete a live coding/skill test and a live interview before being considered. If a candidate is dishonest during the interview or test, they will be permanently banned from the OpenTrain AI platform.
During the interview we will collect specific information and include it in the AI interview summary. Applicants must answer these questions clearly and accurately.
- You will be asked to state your highest level of education.
- You will be asked exactly how many years of experience you have with Lua (provide an exact number).
- You will be asked to commit to an exact number of hours per week you can work if hired (no broad ranges; e.g., '20-25 hours/week' is acceptable).
- Provide concrete examples of what you built with Lua (projects, code samples, links or descriptions).
Commitment, pay, and employment terms
This is a contract, part-time position. The baseline time expectation is 20+ hours per week; during interview you will be asked to confirm the exact weekly hours you can commit.
Compensation is paid per hour at USD 24.00/hour. OpenTrain AI is the contracting organization for this role.
- Employment types: Contractor, Part-time.
- Pay: $24.00 USD per hour.
- Expected weekly commitment: 20+ hours/week (you must state the exact hours during interview).
How to apply
Apply through OpenTrain AI and be prepared to begin with the coding/skill test and a live interview. In your application include a short summary of your Lua experience and at least one concrete example of work you have done with Lua.
Because clear technical writing is essential, include a brief written explanation (2–4 sentences) of a recent Lua bug you fixed and how you fixed it; this will help fast-track qualified candidates.
