OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect experienced contributors with projects that shape how AI systems learn and behave, and we manage hiring, onboarding, and contracting for every role.
About AI training work
AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people prepare, review, and improve examples that machine learning models learn from. This work is remote-friendly, flexible, and a direct way to influence cutting-edge research, tools, and educational content.
This project focuses on software and computer-science content: your expertise will improve datasets that power programming tutors, documentation-quality checks, code-search, and developer-facing learning tools.
The role — what this job is
You will work as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to review, categorize, and annotate technical content in a single software or computer-science specialty. Your judgments will be used to create high-quality labeled data and to evaluate or write example responses for learning systems.
This is a remote, part-time contractor role paid at $25 USD per hour with a minimum expected commitment of 20+ hours per week. Applicants must be located in India and can apply for only one category from the list below.
Employment type: Contractor, part-time
Pay: $25 USD per hour
Location: Must be located in India (no exceptions)
Weekly time expectation: at least 20 hours/week; you must state an exact weekly commitment during interview
You may apply to exactly one category
Available categories (choose exactly one)
Select a single specialty for which you meet the experience requirement. Available categories include language-and-tool-focused and broader CS topics.

What you'll do day-to-day
Work as an SME to ensure labels and example responses are accurate, clear, and consistent with technical standards. Tasks vary by category but typically include reviewing code samples, correcting annotations, writing or rating short model responses, and explaining decisions when asked.
Annotate examples for correctness, intent, and clarity
Write or evaluate short prompt–response examples and provide justification for labels
Follow detailed guidelines and provide feedback to improve dataset quality
Participate in calibration tasks and periodic quality checks
Requirements — what we must see
Candidates must meet all of the following hard requirements. We will verify these during screening.
Location: Must be located in India
Language: C1 or C2 level English proficiency
Experience: Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in the single category you select
Availability: Able to commit to at least 20 hours/week; you must provide an exact weekly-hours commitment during interview
Honesty: Dishonest answers during interview or tests will result in a permanent ban from the OpenTrain AI platform
Interview, testing, and information we will collect
All candidates will undergo a live coding/skill test and a live interview. At the start of the interview you will be told about the test and the expectations for truthful answers. Your interview will capture the following details and your answers must be stated clearly:
Which single category you are applying for (you may only select one)
Your highest level of education
How many years of experience you have in the selected category
The exact number of hours per week you can commit to the project (give an exact number or a narrow range, e.g., "20-25 hours/week")
Who should apply and next steps
Apply if you are an experienced software or CS professional in India with strong English, ready to contribute focused subject expertise to AI training datasets. This role is ideal for developers, system admins, UI/UX specialists, QA testers, and other engineering professionals who enjoy careful review work and mentoring AI behavior through annotations.
To apply, submit your application through OpenTrain and be prepared to complete the coding/skill test and live interview with the required recorded answers mentioned above. If selected, you will receive onboarding details and project instructions.
