The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a Software Engineering AI Evaluation Expert to review and improve AI-generated technical content. The role combines software engineering expertise with structured model evaluation, research, fact-checking, technical writing, and data annotation.
You will work asynchronously with project leads and other experts while following established deliverable guidelines. The role is listed at an entry level, but it requires at least three years of professional software engineering experience.

What You'll Do
You will assess technical content and create high-quality materials that can be used in AI training. The work calls for careful judgment, strong written communication, and the ability to explain why a technical response succeeds or needs improvement.
Analyze AI-generated technical content for clarity, correctness, completeness, and alignment with software engineering best practices
Create, refine, and evaluate prompts and instructions for technical deliverables
Assess AI model outputs against rubrics and provide detailed feedback on quality and reasoning
Draft and edit technical documentation, architecture plans, RFCs, design specifications, engineering proposals, postmortems, technical blogs, and related materials
Research and fact-check technical assertions to support accurate, data-driven content
Interpret and annotate data using software engineering expertise for nuanced evaluation and labeling tasks
Collaborate asynchronously with project leads and other experts while meeting established deliverable guidelines
Requirements
This opportunity is designed for experienced software engineering professionals who can combine technical knowledge with rigorous evaluation and communication skills.
At least three years of professional software engineering experience, including experience as a Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, Staff Engineer, Technical Lead, Engineering Manager, or Solutions Architect
Experience authoring or reviewing technical documentation, architecture documents, design specifications, RFCs, engineering proposals, postmortems, technical blogs, or code reviews
Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, logical problem-solving, written communication, and technical editing skills
Careful attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to quality assurance in technical outputs
Ability to explain technical judgments and identify errors, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement
Ability to create and refine prompts, assess AI-generated outputs against defined criteria, and fact-check technical claims
Clear professional and technical writing and editing skills
Helpful Background
Experience with AI coding tools, code assistants, or automated documentation generators is helpful but not required. Advanced academic credentials or equivalent training are also valued.
