The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Software Engineering AI Evaluation Expert to review and improve AI-generated technical content used in the development of advanced AI systems. You will combine software engineering judgment with structured model evaluation, research, fact-checking, and data annotation.

The role is suited to an experienced software engineering professional who can assess whether technical content is clear, correct, complete, logically reasoned, and aligned with sound engineering practices. You will collaborate asynchronously with project leads and other experts while meeting established deliverable guidelines.

What You’ll Do

You will evaluate technical materials and AI-generated outputs, then provide clear, detailed feedback that supports consistent and high-quality model training. Work may include both content creation and structured annotation.

• Analyze AI-generated technical content for clarity, correctness, completeness, and alignment with software engineering best practices
• Create, refine, and evaluate prompts and instructions for technical deliverables
• Assess AI model outputs against rubrics and provide detailed feedback on quality and reasoning
• Draft and edit technical documentation, architecture plans, RFCs, design specifications, engineering proposals, postmortems, technical blogs, and related materials
• Research and fact-check technical assertions to support accurate, data-driven content
• Interpret and annotate data using software engineering expertise for nuanced evaluation and labeling tasks
• Collaborate asynchronously with project leads and other experts while following established deliverable guidelines

Required Qualifications

You should have at least three years of professional software engineering experience. Relevant backgrounds may include Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, Staff Engineer, Technical Lead, Engineering Manager, or Solutions Architect.

Strong technical communication is essential. You must be able to explain engineering judgments, identify errors and inconsistencies, and recognize opportunities to improve technical outputs.

• At least three years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience authoring or reviewing architecture documents, design specifications, RFCs, engineering proposals, postmortems, technical blogs, technical documentation, or code reviews
• Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and logical problem-solving skills
• Clear professional and technical writing and editing skills
• Careful attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to quality assurance
• Ability to create and refine prompts and assess AI-generated outputs against defined criteria
• Ability to research and fact-check technical claims
• Ability to explain technical judgments and identify areas for improvement

Helpful Background

Familiarity with AI coding tools, code assistants, or automated documentation generators is helpful but not required. Advanced academic credentials or equivalent training are also valued.
