About AI training work

AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human work that teaches AI how to understand and produce language. Contributors evaluate model outputs, follow rubrics and style guides, and provide corrective feedback that directly shapes how models behave.

The role

OpenTrain is hiring an Italian Quality Assurance Lead to review Italian AI-generated content and trainer QA work, enforce guidelines, provide clear written feedback, and help maintain consistent, high-quality outcomes across Italian-language projects.

This is an hourly remote contractor role for contributors based in Italy. Expect to work 20+ hours per week and be hands-on with quality rubrics, documentation, and onboarding support.

What you'll do

You'll combine deep Italian language judgment with pragmatic QA operations to keep projects consistent and high-quality. Your work will include reviewing outputs, coaching contributors, and improving QA materials.

• Review Italian AI-generated text and trainer QA for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, cultural fit, meaning preservation, formatting, and instruction-following.
• Evaluate work against project guidelines, style guides, and project-specific rubrics; record ratings and notes.
• Write precise, constructive feedback and communicate updates to trainers and QAs to resolve recurring issues.
• Support onboarding by maintaining Italian documentation, trackers, and examples that keep contributors aligned with quality expectations.
• Contribute to QA workflow improvements and help standardize processes across Italian-language projects.

Requirements

You must be able to make fine-grained Italian language judgments, communicate clearly in English, and work with common remote collaboration tools.

• Native or near-native Italian reading and writing ability.
• Strong English communication skills for guidelines, feedback, and team coordination.
• Experience in Italian writing, editing, translation, localization, content QA, AI training, education, annotation, or related workflows.
• Strong command of Italian grammar, spelling, punctuation, accents, gender agreement, verb moods, tone, register, and cultural context.
• Comfort reviewing work against rubrics and style guides and providing written feedback.
• Familiarity with Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, dashboards, trackers, and project management tools.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Italian, Linguistics, Translation, Communications, Journalism, English, Education, Quality Assurance, or a related field.

Helpful background

The following experience is not required but will help you succeed and move faster into leadership responsibilities.

• Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, reviewers, editors, or QAs.
• Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, prompt and response evaluation, or rubric-based QA.

Work details, pay, and how it works

This is a contractor, part-time position for contributors based in Italy (not worldwide). Hours are flexible but the role expects 20+ hours per week and ongoing coordination with remote teams.

Compensation is $45 USD per hour. Tasks focus on TEXT data and evaluation-rating label types, using rubrics to judge model outputs and trainer work.
