The Role

OpenTrain AI is recruiting a GIS and Geospatial AI Training Expert to support AI training work focused on GIS and geospatial analysis. You will use geospatial workflows, AI-generated code sequences, and evaluation datasets to help AI systems learn from structured human expertise, careful review, and clear written feedback.

Prior AI training experience is not required. The most important qualification is strong real-world knowledge of GIS, remote sensing, spatial analytics, or related geospatial technologies. This is an entry-level contractor opportunity requiring 20+ hours per week, with compensation of $80–$100 per hour.

What You'll Do

You will provide expert analysis, feedback, and practical examples related to GIS and geospatial data challenges for AI model development. You will also contribute to high-fidelity datasets and evaluations used in AI training and benchmarking initiatives.

The work includes documenting technical workflows and problem-solving approaches involving AI coding agents such as Codex, Claude Science, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork. You will explain how agents generated multi-step sequences, including the project context, tool selection, and results.

You will work asynchronously with stakeholders to refine documentation and guidance materials while evaluating whether AI-generated solutions are technically sound, complete, and appropriate for the underlying geospatial challenge.

  • Analyze GIS and geospatial data challenges for AI model development.
  • Document technical workflows and problem-solving approaches using AI coding agents.
  • Describe multi-step AI-generated code sequences, their context, selected tools, and results.
  • Evaluate and critique solutions involving large codebase navigation, debugging, feature development, and architectural changes.
  • Explain how ambiguity or scale creates technical hurdles and how AI agents can help address them.
  • Contribute to datasets and evaluations for AI training and benchmarking.
  • Collaborate asynchronously to improve technical documentation and guidance.

Required Skills and Experience

This role requires demonstrated expertise in GIS, remote sensing, spatial analytics, or related geospatial technologies, along with direct, hands-on experience using AI coding agents to solve technical challenges in GIS or STEM projects.

You should be able to generate and analyze AI-driven code sequences, not just use AI agents for conversational purposes. Strong communication is important because you will explain technical processes and reasoning to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Expertise in GIS, remote sensing, spatial analytics, or related geospatial technologies.
  • Hands-on use of Codex, Claude Science, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, or similar AI coding agents.
  • Experience evaluating AI-generated code involving debugging, codebase navigation, feature development, or architectural changes.
  • Experience generating and analyzing AI-driven code sequences.
  • Ability to explain technical workflows and reasoning clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Judgment in identifying ambiguity, scale-related risks, and weaknesses in geospatial solutions.
  • Comfort working independently on remote contractor tasks.
  • STEM background, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a willingness to share knowledge and improve technical systems.
