About AI Training and Generative AI
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Engineers, data specialists, and subject-matter experts help create, evaluate, and improve the systems behind modern AI. Generative AI work is helping shape how large language models understand context, produce useful responses, and support real-world applications.
The Role
OpenTrain AI is hiring a Senior LLM Engineer for a hands-on, part-time contract role. You will design, build, and deploy Generative AI and LLM-based solutions while contributing to technical roadmaps and collaborating with engineering, data, and business stakeholders.
This role is intended for an engineer who can apply deep technical knowledge of Python and modern LLM frameworks to production-oriented systems. The engagement requires a commitment of 20+ hours per week and is available to contractors in India.
Employment type: Part-time contractor
Time commitment: 20+ hours per week
Location eligibility: India
Primary language: English
Experience level listed for the opportunity: Entry level
What You'll Do
You will work across the LLM application lifecycle, from translating business needs into scalable solutions to contributing to architecture, implementation, deployment, and optimization. The role includes close collaboration with business subject-matter experts and data teams to keep AI systems aligned with practical use cases.
Design and develop Generative AI and LLM-based systems using LangChain and Retrieval-Augmented Generation pipelines.
Apply prompt engineering techniques and agent-based frameworks to build intelligent, context-aware solutions.
Collaborate with the engineering team to shape and drive the technical roadmap for LLM initiatives.
Translate business needs into scalable, production-ready AI solutions.
Work with business subject-matter experts and data teams to align AI models with real-world use cases.
Contribute to architecture discussions, code reviews, and performance optimization.
Required Skills
Applicants should be comfortable building Generative AI systems and communicating technical decisions across teams. The role requires independent execution as well as effective collaboration with engineering, business, and data stakeholders.
Proficiency in Python, LangChain, and SQL.
Understanding of LLM internals, including prompt tuning, embeddings, vector databases, and agent workflows.
A background in machine learning or software engineering with system-level thinking.
Experience deploying AI models on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Helpful Background
The opportunity is well suited to candidates who have already worked hands-on with LLMs and Generative AI techniques and want to contribute to end-to-end AI product development.
At least 1 year of hands-on experience with LLMs and Generative AI techniques.
Experience contributing to ML or AI product pipelines or end-to-end deployments.
Familiarity with MLOps and scalable deployment patterns for AI models.
Prior exposure to client-facing projects or cross-functional AI teams.
Why Work in AI Training
AI training and LLM engineering offer a direct opportunity to influence how cutting-edge artificial intelligence works in practice. Many contributors value the flexibility of remote, part-time work and the chance to develop experience in one of technology's fastest-growing areas.
Work remotely with a flexible part-time schedule.
