Why AI training matters (and why music is different)

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: people label, evaluate, and shape model outputs so models improve safely and usefully. For generative music, human judgment of lyrics, performance, production, and creativity is essential because musical quality is subjective and context-dependent.

This role puts experienced music professionals at the center of shaping how models sing, write, and produce music in French — a hands-on way to influence emerging creative AI tools while working remotely and flexibly.

The role

You will review and score AI-generated French-language music samples and training data. Work combines musical judgment, lyrical literacy in French, and audio-engineering assessment to produce structured ratings and classifications that improve model behavior.

OpenTrain AI is hiring contractors for a part-time, time-limited project; evaluators will use a defined taxonomy to annotate song structure, genre, vocal and instrumental characteristics, and production quality.

What you'll do

• Listen to AI-generated music samples and rate musicality, creativity, and prompt adherence using provided rubrics.
• Evaluate lyrics and voice generation for French-language songs, judging performance, intelligibility, and lyrical fit.
• Score training data quality and compare model outputs head-to-head using audio-engineering terminology.
• Annotate genre, sub-genre, song structure, and vocal/instrumental characteristics with a structured taxonomy.
• Classify samples and provide evaluation ratings to support model training and fine-tuning.

Requirements

This is an expert-level music evaluation role that requires practical production and lyrical experience in French and strong musical judgment.

• Experience as a music producer, audio engineer, or sound mixer (required).
• Strong understanding of musical performance, theory, and lyrics (required).
• Past experience writing lyrical music in French (required).
• Native or near-native proficiency in French and English and ability to follow directions in English (required).
• Comfort using audio-engineering terminology when comparing and scoring outputs (required).
• Helpful: college-level music study and 3+ years of music production, engineering, or mixing experience.

Project details & compensation

Immediate start; up to 6 months in duration. This is a contract, part-time role with a typical commitment of 20+ hours per week.

Pay is hourly: $30.00 to $60.48 USD per hour. Work is worldwide/remote; you will be paid as a contractor per OpenTrain AI's arrangements.
