About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people find specialized, remote projects where they can grow skills, build a portfolio, and earn as contractors while contributing to how modern AI systems learn.

Why AI training matters — and why finance skills fit

AI training (data labeling and human review) is the human foundation behind today’s models. For finance tasks, experienced reviewers turn real financial documents and synthetic scenarios into accurate, evidence-backed training data that teach models to reason about ledgers, invoices, and ERP outputs.

This role puts your accounting and finance skills at the center of model quality: your judgments and written feedback directly shape how AI systems interpret finance documents and workflows.

The role — what this project is

OpenTrain is hiring a Finance AI Training Expert to evaluate and validate financial data, invoices, ledgers, and ERP exports for accuracy and completeness. You will perform reconciliation and variance analysis, document AP/AR and month-end workflows, and help calibrate AI training datasets using evidence-based judgments.

  • Work type: Contractor, part-time engagement (remote).
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours per week.
  • Pay: Hourly, USD; rates vary by task ($10–$55/hr; top rate $55/hr).
  • Data type: Document review; label types include evaluation/rating and question-answering.
  • Languages: English required; role is open worldwide.

What you’ll do day-to-day

  • Review invoices, ledgers, ERP exports, and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform variance analysis and reconcile accounts to identify and explain discrepancies.
  • Evaluate ERP reports and provide clear, evidence-based written feedback on findings.
  • Document financial reporting processes, including AP/AR workflows and month-end close activities.
  • Analyze real and synthetic finance tasks and map evidence to expected outputs for dataset calibration.
  • Contribute to calibration and continuous improvement of training datasets and annotation guidelines.

Requirements

You must be able to work independently with high attention to detail, communicate clearly in English, and apply accounting judgment to document-level evidence.

  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and Google Sheets for finance analysis.
  • Experience in accounting operations: AP, AR, reconciliation, financial reporting, or FP&A.
  • Ability to read and review ERP reports, ledgers, and supporting financial documents.
  • Strong analytical judgment and clear written and verbal communication in English.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Note: the listing is labeled entry level but the project requires the degree and experience above.

Helpful background (preferred)

  • Experience in audit, controllership, or finance process optimization.
  • Prior exposure to AI training, data annotation, or QA in finance contexts.
  • Comfort documenting workflows and writing concise, evidence-backed explanations.

How it works — applying and next steps

This is fully remote and flexible; you can work from anywhere and schedule hours around other commitments. Compensation is hourly and varies by task; exact pay offered per assignment will follow the published range.
