About AI training work
AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human effort that teaches AI systems to understand images, video, audio, and text. Contributors do the careful, detailed work models learn from — a fast-growing way to work in tech with flexible hours and remote opportunities.
This role focuses on video and audio annotation: transcription and classification tasks that shape next-generation AI behavior.
Many projects need no prior AI experience; attention to detail and consistency are often the most important qualifications.
Role overview
We are hiring a Data Annotator to produce and refine high-quality video and audio labels. You will follow detailed guidelines to transcribe and classify media, identify edge cases, and help maintain annotation quality across the project.
Employment type: Contractor, part-time.
Time requirement: 20+ hours per week.
Pay: $6–$10 per hour (hourly rate varies by experience and performance).
Work location: 100% remote; worldwide applicants accepted.
Language requirement: Proficiency in written and verbal English.
What you'll do
Your day-to-day will focus on accurately applying labels and improving dataset quality. Tasks follow detailed protocols and may require close interpretation of ambiguous cases.
Precisely annotate video and audio samples according to project guidelines.
Transcribe spoken content and assign classification labels where required.
Review and validate existing annotations to improve accuracy and consistency.
Identify and document edge cases or ambiguous samples for coordinator review.
Collaborate with project coordinators to refine annotation criteria and workflows.
Maintain records of completed work and submit deliverables on schedule.
Provide feedback on annotation tools and processes to support improvements.
Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate careful, methodical work habits and the ability to follow highly specific instructions. Prior AI experience is not required, but previous annotation examples and strong English communication are essential.
Demonstrated experience in data annotation, especially with video and audio content.
Proven attention to detail (examples of prior annotation work preferred).
Ability to interpret and execute detailed annotation instructions.
Proficiency in written and verbal English.
Experience working independently on remote projects with minimal supervision.
Strong analytical skills for making objective decisions about nuanced data.
Ability to identify edge cases and clearly report ambiguities.
Helpful background and benefits
Familiarity with labeling platforms or annotation tools is a plus but not required. This role is a great fit for people who want flexible, remote, part-time work and the chance to contribute to how AI systems are trained.
Flexible remote schedule compatible with other commitments.
Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI training tasks and build portfolio experience.
Competitive pay band: $6–$10 per hour depending on performance and experience.
