About AI training and language work
AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human side of building intelligent systems. For language work, human translators and reviewers provide the accurate, culturally informed examples that models learn from—everything from raw translations to localization decisions and summarized content.
This role contributes directly to model quality: your translations, edits, and feedback will be used as structured training data so AI better handles Mandarin business contexts.
The role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Mandarin Language Expert to perform translation, interpretation, localization, and quality review for business-oriented text. This is a remote, part-time contractor role focused on text-based tasks that improve model performance in Mandarin and English.
The position is entry-level friendly so long as you bring strong real-world Mandarin translation and interpretation skills and professional attention to detail.
What you'll do
Translate and interpret between Mandarin and English across business documents, presentations, and marketing materials.
Review, edit, and proofread written materials for linguistic accuracy, tone, and cultural relevance.
Support localization efforts to adapt content for Mandarin-speaking audiences.
Facilitate clear communication between teams and stakeholders, and act as a cultural liaison for cross-cultural nuances.
Maintain messaging consistency and high standards across assigned materials.
Requirements
You must have hands-on experience with translation, interpretation, or localization in professional settings and be comfortable working independently in a remote environment under deadlines.
Native or near-native Mandarin (zh) proficiency and fluency in English (en) for business contexts.
Relevant professional, academic, or demonstrable language expertise in Mandarin translation and interpretation.
Strong written communication, careful attention to detail, and proven proofreading skills.
Cultural sensitivity and the ability to adapt messaging for Mandarin-speaking audiences.
Comfort delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines; entry-level contributors with strong skills are welcome.
Schedule, pay, and task details
This is part-time contractor work with a time commitment of less than 20 hours per week. The role is fully remote and available worldwide.
Pay is on an hourly basis in USD with rates between $45 and $95 per hour. Tasks are text-based and include translation/localization and text summarization annotation types.
Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
