About AI Training Work
AI training (data labeling, annotation, or human feedback) is the human side of building intelligent systems. Contributors create and refine example text that helps models understand tone, cultural nuance, and realistic conversation.
These roles are often remote and flexible, making them a good fit for writers who want part-time contract work while helping shape how AI communicates in Mandarin.
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Creative Writer fluent in Mandarin Chinese to produce and refine dialogue and written responses used to train LLM-based chatbots. This is a remote, part-time contract role focused on high-quality, culturally authentic writing.
You will generate original prompt responses, improve AI drafts, and ensure output matches natural Mandarin usage across styles and regional contexts.
- Pay: $15 USD per hour.
- Commitment: minimum 10 hours/week; preferred 20+ hours/week (flexible scheduling).
- Employment type: Contractor, Part-time. Worldwide applicants accepted.
What You'll Do
Day-to-day tasks focus on producing and polishing Mandarin text that teaches conversational models how to respond naturally and appropriately. Expect a mix of creative writing, concise professional messages, and persuasive content.
- Write original responses to prompts and questions in Mandarin (prompt-response writing, text generation).
- Edit and proofread AI-generated drafts for grammar, tone, and cultural accuracy.
- Produce short professional or persuasive messages and summaries in Mandarin (question answering, summarization).
- Adapt language to regional variations and cultural contexts to keep dialogues authentic.
Requirements
The hiring team values demonstrated Mandarin writing skill and prior hands-on experience on data-labeling platforms. Please preserve all relevant information when you apply.
- Writing experience: 5+ years in creative or content writing in Mandarin is highly preferred (not strictly required).
- Platform experience: Prior writing tasks on OpenTrain, OpenTrain, Appen, OpenTrain.tech, or similar labeling platforms is highly preferred.
- Portfolio: A portfolio of published works in Mandarin (links or descriptions) is preferred.
- Language: Native or near-native written Mandarin; basic English to follow instructions is required.
- Tools: Familiarity with AI chatbot tools like ChatGPT is an advantage but not required.
- Editing: Strong proofreading and editing skills for high-quality output.
- Education: Please be ready to state your highest level of education during screening.
- Work setup: Reliable internet and the ability to work remotely on a contractor schedule.
Interview & Short Test
The interview will include standard screening questions about your writing background and platform experience; you will be asked how many years/months you have written on labeling platforms and to share a portfolio link or descriptions of your work.
At the end of the interview there is a mandatory short test. All test responses must be written in Mandarin Chinese; questions will be presented in both English and Mandarin. Performance on this test strongly affects qualification.
- Interview will confirm whether you performed WRITING tasks (not only rating/evaluation) on platforms like OpenTrain or OpenTrain.
- Test Question 1 (Mandarin): 请使用创造性语言简要描述一个独特而生动的角色。您的描述应至少包含两个显著特征或特性。
- Test Question 2 (Mandarin): 请撰写一封简短的电子邮件给您的上司,请求对您准备的“季度财务报告”提供反馈。请专注于数据分析和展示风格的请求。
- Test Question 3 (Mandarin): 请撰写一封简洁的电子邮件,说服一个内向的朋友作为当地活动的嘉宾演讲者自愿参与。强调参与的两个好处,并解决他们可能有的一个潜在顾虑。
